Elon University has now ceased to be a serious institution of higher learning. In fact, it no longer deserves to be called a university in the wake of its decision to create a new Vendor Policy Study Committee. The committee, which was created by Elon's Board of Trustees in October, is part of a response to efforts to ban Chick-fil-A from the Elon campus. Its very existence shows that Elon cannot expeditiously handle simple issues concerning tolerance and inclusion. Instead, it legitimates bigotry by giving serious consideration to anti-religious zealots who would best be ignored.

Elon's 15-member committee is made up of trustees, alumni, students, faculty, and staff members. During five meetings the group has held since the fall, they have had what they characterize (in campus email updates) as "thoughtful and respectful discussions with a collegial spirit." They also report that they have "reviewed" a large volume of materials. In other words, they have been thoughtful and respectful and collegial as they consider banning companies from their campus because they do not hold politically correct beliefs. And they have spent a lot of time and resources doing it.

This Orwellian committee started by reviewing Elon's current vendor and purchasing policies and practices. They have also received input from legal counsel, reviewed actions by the Student Government Association, solicited input from Elon's Inclusive Community Council, and studied more than 200 emails from members of the local community. The committee reports that these sources have provided "a variety of opinions and perspectives on the issues."

In other words, Elon University has launched a McCarthy-style investigation into whether the campus has been invaded by subversives who want to undermine the community by suggesting that marriage requires one man and one woman. Did anyone notice that the Chick-Fil-A sign is bright red? It's enough to cause a modern-day red scare.

In addition, the committee has reviewed decisions by other universities related to Chick-fil-A as well as media reports on the company and its activities. Those media reports have come from reliable sources like the Huffington Post. They show that the chicken vendor has consorted with the KKK. Just kidding, it's worse than that. They've donated to the Family Research Council.

The committee continues to seek input from interested persons and stakeholders on these issues. In addressing the charges given the committee by the Elon Board of Trustees, they are developing options for the Board to consider related to vendor policies and guidelines. They are also developing a set of pros and cons related to Chick-fil-A's continued operation on Elon's campus. In the spirit of inclusiveness, I've included my own set of pros and cons related to their continuing operation at Elon.

Pros:
1. People can eat delicious chicken sandwiches and waffle fries at Elon.
2. Elon can profit from sales of delicious chicken sandwiches and waffle fries on campus.
3. Homosexual activists might decide to boycott Elon.
4. Angry liberals might join the boycott of Elon.

Cons:
1. I can't really think of any.

The Vendor Policy Study Committee anticipates providing a progress report to the Board of Trustees at its March 1-2 meeting. They hope to conclude their work with a set of findings for the Board's consideration prior to the end of the spring semester.

Accordingly, members of the Elon community have been extended an invitation to express their opinion or provide the committee with information on these matters. I am encouraging my readers to do the same by sending an email to vendorpolicy@elon.edu. They claim to welcome the involvement of all members of the Elon community in these discussions. But I think that is too exclusive. I think all Americans should provide them with input.

I plan to write Elon and tell them not to be chicken of a little ideological diversity. If you have a nugget of advice, please share it. But try not to use any fowl language. There's too much hate speech out there already.

I could easily say the anus is objectively a one way valve that randomly developed that way through evolution. We can’t prove WHY it’s the way it is, but we can prove it exists and works a certain way.

True, but I actually prefer the argument from design. Because if you take the position you state, the only reason someone shouldn't put a penis in an anus is because it damages the anus. And if the owner of the anus in question doesn't particularly care, and the majority of people don't care deeply about the anuses of this small fraction of the population, then you're done.

And truly... the owners of the anuses don't care, and the rest of the world doesn't much care either, not in those terms. Apart from God and God's purpose you're just talking about so much meat. This meat will one day go the way of all flesh.

Oberon: “If that worldview is consistent with reality, then so much the better.”

Definitely. A community could pass a law saying the earth is flat or homosexual sex is equal to heterosexual sex, but neither is objectively true. Eventually, the natural order asserts itself.

It’s like playing with fire. Sticking an unprotected hand in an open flame is always harmful. You could wrap your hand in protective gear, but if that gear ever fails, you’ll get burned. The fire still exists throughout. It didn’t go away simply because you had protective gear on. The fire is the reality.

Spiritually speaking, it’s so much easier to simply not stick your hand in the fire in the first place, but that’s not how humans typically operate or learn.

What about them homo penguins and giraffes? I get this one all the time from the hom crowd on blogs. It is usually a case of male dominance or behavior in an unnatural setting like a zoo.

Well, I actually don’t care what people do with their anuses per se. It doesn’t harm me, nor is it a sin against me if someone wants to sodomize someone else. What does matter to me is when me or mine are told to shut up, ignore reality, and treat sodomy like it’s something perfectly normal if not admirable. It matters to me when I’m ostracized for stating what’s objectively true or my children are indoctrinated to believe a lie. It also matters to me, because I care about other people as a Christian and really don’t want to see anyone burn in Hell. Therefore, I want to give people an opportunity to hear the truth so that some might be saved. Nevertheless, I respect their right to choose Hell. God certainly does.

Let me know when you see baby penguins coming out of the butts of homo penguins. Maybe then you’d have a point.

If your worldview had no faith-based philosophical underpinnings .... then you have no basis on which to argue against homosexuality.

You are also free to become an amoral operator and practice murder and manslaughter regularly, to advance your career goals or simply to remove annoying people from your life.

It's a very liberating POV. No wonder mass-murderers prefer it. (Have you noticed most of the serial/mass-killers of the last 20 years have been liberals?)

I’ve worked in academia for 30+ years. I’ve never heard of Elon University.

I heard of them back in the day, because Dick Dunkel rated their football team. IIRC they were Division III or something. Down in the weeds with Lenoir-Rhyne, Tennessee-Martin, and Hardin-Simmons.

Other than that .....

It's a very liberating POV. No wonder mass-murderers prefer it.

Indeed, the fruits of it are existentialism leading to nihilism and after that... blood.

The two interim stages are lumped together in the cultural phenomenon the academic types like to call "post-modernism." The only reason the world isn't currently knee-deep in the blood of the innocent and guilty alike is because the resulting worldview is inaccurate. Having been made by a loving God and born into a fallen world, the vast majority of us live according to our nature, not according to our philosophy.

Thank God.

My point exactly. I think the penguins without mates turn homo. I think its only the males.

I do have a fish that went all transgender on me. I bought two male clown fish and one changed sex into a female. She is now twice as big as her male partner. They can do that to continue the species.

“If your worldview had no faith-based philosophical underpinnings, i.e. is not firmly and consciously grounded in Judeo-Christian belief, then you have no basis on which to argue against homosexuality.”

Actually, you do.

Oh, the Christian objections are good enough for me, but even if one is the worst kind of atheist—a utilitarian—there are good and sufficient reasons for discriminating against, and even suppressing, homosexuality.

For instance, it is a mental disorder, and you cannot compartmentalize a mental disorder. The thinking of people who suffer from same-sex attraction disorder is affected by their disorder at least occasionally. This can be determined through simple observation.

The filty nature of anal intercourse makes homosexuals disease vectors. They do not live as long as normal people, and they shorten the lives of others.

Intelligent homosexuals often do not procreate, thereby depriving the gene pool of their contribution.

Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

“A faith-based argument cannot be proven, because it’s based on faith.”

People accept things as historical fact that are based on much less evidence.
