Chief Beck said the ongoing pursuit for Christopher Dorner is a strain on police resources
The manhunt for fugitive former LAPD officer and suspected murderer Christopher Dorner has taken a toll on Southern California police departments.
Hundreds of officers are working on the Dorner case, not just responding to every credible sighting, but also protecting at least 50 families connected to the angry manifesto Dorner allegedly wrote, saying he would kill police.
The response on Sunday at a Lowe's store in Northridge was massive, but the report that Dorner was there was later found to be false -- like many other sightings.

But police say they're not letting up.
"We'll continue to go until we have Mr. Dorner in custody, and the threat has ceased," LAPD Lt. Andy Neiman said Monday.
That is a tall order -- costly not in dollars, Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck said, but also in public safety.
"While this continues, our ability to do other things -- to respond to 911, to do criminal investigations, to do community relations events, is crippled," Beck said.

Meanwhile, politicians continue to beat the gun control political drum. I hope the lefty voters in CA enjoy what they have done to themselves (to you "righty's" out there, stay alive and be judged by 12).
I think they should quit talking about this guy as he seems like he is an attention seeker among other things and if he thinks he is not the hot topic he might come out and make some mistakes and then they could nab him.
Public safety. LOL. If only LAPD would stop shooting the innocent public.
Many dogs celebrate.
The danger of this guy is that there is no time frame in mind as to when he’ll pick off his victims. The LAPD cannot spend unlimited resources forever trying to hunt the guy, whereas, he has unlimited time in hunting his victims. He can spend his time keeping track of them through surveillance and the internet.
Or run to the B&B gun store at the last minute and beg for firepower like they did in the North Hollywood shootout !

It's all Dorner's fault.
Sheesh, that's like plastering a big "gun-free zone" sign on the wall of a school. Oh wait, this is LAPD warp-o-world, so that's more likely a good thing. Arrrg...
Cha-ching $$$, Cha-ching $$$, Cha-ching $$$ overtime galore for the police unions!
THe probably shot him on the weekend and are keeping him on ice while clocking up the OT.
I wonder if they’d provide as much protection for non-police... oops, and non-politically connected.
Members of ROYALTY do seem to get more favorable treatment than the serfs do.
“Many dogs celebrate.”
LOL
I know a lot of good cops, and most police I know are of the “Adam 12” and “Dragnet” TV show model and not the steroid-altered dog-shooters. However, it is clear that the overall LAPD enthusiasm for catching a cop killer is on an entirely different level from the overall enthusiasm for protecting ordinary citizens. Some animals are more equal than others. It’s a good thing we have a Second Amendment guarantee of our right to keep and bear arms, or we’d be in deep trouble when seconds count and the police are even more minutes away than usual.
Gee....seems like Chief Beck just gave the criminal element in southern California the all clear call....
I am also very surprised our “king” in DC has not personally got involved by issuing an EO demanding Chris Dorner turn himself in... / S
I wonder if Obama hasn’t thought about hiring this Dorner guy to be his personal bodyguard after granting him amnesty.
Obama can get away with it as we all know.
Now these incompetent buffoons, fools and idiot want to use drones against him. Great.
What could go wrong?
(If only they had more money)
