One of the main barriers to putting in place anti-bullying policies in middle schools is the simple fact that middle-schoolers think bullies are cool. A recent study of 2,000 students at 11 middle schools around Los Angeles found that when students were asked to identify their most respected peers and those engaging in nasty behavior, the lists were often quite similar.

how often do you see TV shows and movies that don’t depict the “cool” kids as bullies?

Most don’t now. It is all this big, recent anti-bullying push on TV and in the movies. Really, it is just hokey. Not that I’m for bullying but most go all 80s sitcom on how to deal with bullies when in reality, they need their butt whooped by their parents or the victims to stand up. Instead, they all just talk about their feelings. Really, what middle schooler does that?

Well, I do think it deserves to be talked about even if it took a bazillion dollars to get someone to DO it.

Talking about feelings with no God acknowledged is like talking about hunger with no food around. Utterly pointless, but what else are you gonna do.

Yup. Hard to stop bullying when the other kids admire them and cheer them on as they beat the crap out someone for no good reason.

Because they’re all already in gangs.

Middle-Schoolers Think Bullies Are the Cool Kids...a major problem for all the libs trying to brain wash and reprogram the populace into believing just as they do - at bottom, people will believe what their experiences tell them to believe - same problem they have with trying to normalize homosexuality - the (admittedly few) early-teen-aged kids I come into contact with give lipservice to seeing nothing wrong with homosexuality, to the extent that they understand it, but they still talk about how weird and silly gays often seem to them - truth crushed to the ground, and all that.....
To: chessplayer
If they didn’t say that, the bullies would beat the snot out of them.

Not that Im for bullying but most go all 80s sitcom on how to deal with bullies when in reality, they need their butt whooped by their parents or the victims to stand up. Instead, they all just talk about their feelings. Really, what middle schooler does that? I was bullied in junior high (what's now called middle school) when I transferred from one school district to another. Hence, I was the n00b with all that entails.
It was among the best things that ever happened to me. Really.
Almost like Ralph Parker in the movie,
A Christmas Story, I "has all I can stands and I can't stands no more!". I didn't quite become the Tasmanian Devil but I beat the snot out this guy. It's probably a cliche, but the onetime bully and I then became great friends through the rest of junior high and until we graduated from high school and went our separate ways.
Frankly, a lot of the sissy boys could use a little bullying to straighten them out. No, I'm not advocating thuggery -- just some good old playground fights. Back in my day, getting a bloody nose or a black eye was a rite of passage that turned some boys into men.
I'm not sure how well received my viewpoint will be received here and I realize that things have changed (especially since busing killed the neighborhood school) since the 40s and 50s when I came of age. But I've stated my experience with honesty and with candor so I'll take my virtual lumps here just like I did with the real thing so many decades ago. :-)

I’ve been saying for years that it the self-esteem movement caused more bullying. The educationists cant figure it out.

That says alot about this generation. Back when I was in school, bullies were seen for what they were - thugs and future criminals which more often than not they turned out to be.
