Cardinals who enter the conclave as papabilli generally exit as Cardinals. The Holy Spirit has a mind of His own and most likely isn't very impressed with the bookies or their odds.

That said, I hope the next Pontiff is a non European. The Church is most vibrant in Africa and Asia. I'd like to see one of the bright lights leading the Church in those places ascend to the Throne of Peter...but the Holy Spirit isn't looking for guidance from me either.

Something about the complete lack of decorum or good taste that goes with making this list makes me happy.

So Cardinal Ouellet is a “staff director”?

Sheesh.

If there’s anything more futile and stupid than bookies handicapping conclaves, it’s the MSM’s pathetic attempts to sound informed and authoritative about anything connected to the Catholic Church.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Turkson

“In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman, who will feed his flock among many tribulations; after which the seven-hilled city (Rome, the seat of the Vatican) will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people.”

St. Malachy about the next Pope.

I knew an officer in the service, a Major Major (another, Captain America). So maybe they could find a guy named `Pope’.
But seriously, I could use a job. I’m not Catholic, but hey—we’ve got an unqualified Kenyan president and that’s worked out just ... never mind.

Really thought I had a job nailed down last week with a small circus as a `Human Cannonball,’ but I weigh 200 pounds and, like I said, it’s a small outfit.
After trying to stuff me down the tube they said they couldn’t use a man of my caliber .... hey, whoa!

So where do I apply? `Rome, The Vatican, general delivery’?

It will be Obama.
He only got a peace prize so far.
He needs this.

Irrelevant, since most Catholics don't follow the tenets of the faith anyway.

I always found it amusing that a follower can basically do anything he or she wants, go to see some special somebody, spout out their particular transgressions to somebody they can hear but not see, be told to recite a bunch of meaningless words and thereby be absolved.

Pure silliness. I used to stake out and stalk the Catholic chicks in high school and college, because they just knew that whatever they did, some other human could make the consequences go away.

This from Italy

In one way I'm hoping it's not true because Belusconi would be an improvement in the White House over Obama and also eligible since Obama set the precedence.

Wasn’t there some prophesy that there’d only be one or two more Popes at this point?

Does no one else find the spectacle of betting on who will succeed to be the spiritual head of an organisation which regards gambling as a sin to be more than a little incongrous?
