The Coast Guard says it is maintaining communication with a Carnival cruise ship that is adrift off of Mexico after a fire in an engine room.
The Coast Guard said in a news release personnel aboard the Carnival Triumph extinguished the fire and no one was injured. The ship is now operating on emergency power about 150 miles off southern Mexico's Yucatan peninsula.

Well, at least it didn’t run aground. And hopefully the Captain isn’t an Italian fop and is still onboard.
...don’t think it will ever get that troublesome...soon to be under tow
“In January last year, the Costa Concordia, a luxury cruise ship operated by the Carnival Corp-owned Costa Cruises, capsized and sank ... “
Lousy writer. He makes it sound like the ship just up and decided to roll over. The ship capsized after the hot-dog captain decided to “buzz” the island so a crew member could wave to family & friends. Ripped the hull open on rocks, then it capsized & sank.
Had he never heard of rocks? Sonar? Charts? Sea room?
It was not the ship’s fault.

I think that crash had more to do with seamen (sic.) then it had to do with technology.
I have never had a desire to go on an ocean cruise. Why jam yourself into a room with tons of other people around? In recent years, some nasty virus rears its ugly head affecting many on board..and then these kind of things. Some of those ships are so tall they look like they will topple over.
I may consider a river cruise, maybe even a paddle wheel type...but not an ocean cruise.
With the way Mexican cartels have been emboldened lately I’m surprised there isn’t a fleet of fishing boats headed out to her all flying the black flag.
I sailed on her once and the only thing they burned was the steak...
This is the reason I never go on cruises. The ship stalls out, and it gets surrounded by giant squids, man-eating clams, cannibals and sharks. Drunken passengers fall on the deck, slide into the sea and get eaten. It’s not my idea of a good ending.
I wouldn't be able to ignore the obvious sense of impending doom.
Lighten up. Cruises are okay, but you’ll enjoy them more if you have a drinking problem. It’s an economical way to travel, the price is comparable to a hotel room, and the hotel visits places.
I think that movie was on last week.
If you are able to leave on a minute’s notice, and don’t really cared where you’re going.., you can get some incredible values on cruises..
Remember when Jeannie didn’t want Capt. Nelson to go on a big metal modern ship because it was too heavy to float?
“adrift.....” Yep, just like the United States. How long would you say it takes Carnival to go B.K.?
I was on that boat last June. We had a blast! The only things bad about that trip was the drive through Houston and the cruise wasn’t long enough.
That’s it.
LOL. Heck, my wife and daughter would probably “pay a little extra” for something like this to happen on the next one, just for the Adventure of it all.
