Same reason they call a 10/22 an AK-47. Because it’s the press, and they’re no good at what they do.

The title of the article even blows it. It says he killed the Chief’s daughter. It was a former captain’s daughter.

As a former Navy Reservist myself, I’m only too happy that they keep referring to him as a “soldier.”
