The Weather Channel announced Tuesday that they planned to start naming winter storms, similar to how the National Weather Service names tropical systems. Why?

Maybe, next, they can start naming sunrises and sunsets.

Of course, every big storm becomes the new storm-of-the-century.

ROTFL.
Thank you so much, for taking the time to provide the link!
The Weather Channel is almost useless! Too many commercials.
I always get the feeling they’re hoping for a tragedy to report.

A named storm is easier to remember and refer to in the future.

Well...it's the 'future'. We all know about 'Nemo'. Can anyone name 'A' thru 'L' from earlier this winter season? No peeking. How about the current 'O' "ravaging" the upper Midwest?

Named storms also make it easier to get money(which they simply create) from devastated storm victims that can later be used to buy.......... more votes.
