BOSTON (AP) Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick has declared a state of emergency for blizzard that could bring near 3 feet of snow.
Patrick signed an executive order banning all vehicles from roadways starting at 4 p.m. today. Ban applies to all roadways, including highways and secondary roads. Any one caught driving after 4 p.m. faces up to one year in jail and $500 fine.

LOL but when they illegally get there the store workers (for food, medicine or hardware only) will have legally driven there. Makes little sense.
This policy actually comes from the 1950’s Civil Defense regulations. The roads were to be closed and were to be watched by National Guard to assure that roads would be clear for emergency responders.
Sort of forces a rethink of the Bug Out Or Hunker Down debate. You must bug out BEFORE the government freezes the roads “for the common good”.
FEMA disgusts me.
Nothing more than another perpetually growing entitlement program.
Clear the roads and get the power back up, then get the hell out of the way.
Just kidding...right?
Hmmm...now where have I heard that before?
It’s pretty rough here but still - a car ban?! I sent an email to the gov office telling them my opinion...for what it’s worth.
That’s it??!! That’s ALL your are going to do???? What happened to the posting of it on the Public Safety web site so everyone could see what a jerk that driver is??
Man, this country is going to Hell in a handbasket. No one seems to care anymore.
Limbaugh was having quite the field day on this stuff today. The sarcasm was thick enough to cut but I bet it just flew over the heads of the likes of Mayor Doomberg and Gov. Coupe-Deval.
That's more than you get for rape, murder, or theft....
Because it is.
Hey, Deval....Catch me if you can, you moron!
Ah, the nanny state.
At least they’re being reasonable.
“The people of Mass are ruled like SERFS, or slaves... because they let themselves be ruled as such.”
There are quite a few conservative Bay Staters, but by and large the populace is liberal. I have lots of relatives there and lets just say we don’t talk politics. Or religion either. They love the nanny state. Want all things about liberty in the Constitutional sense banned, don’t want to know God...this is what they want.
I feel for FReepers in that state.
Why doesn't he just shoot them on sight? Save the taxpayers three squares and a cot for a year.
How are people supposed to get to the gas station, grocery store or hardware store if they are not allowed to be on the road.
If its anything like Florida their is a freakin dollar store on every corner or like in NY a 7-11 on every corner. lol.
Under a hail of bullets from the Peace Ossifers.
If you want my carton of milk, newspaper, and flashlight batteries, you're going to have to pry them from my cold dead fingers.
By what authority does the governor claim the right to impose a $500 fine or a year in jail on free citizens for driving on the road?
