Change, long the mantra of Barack Obama and the Democrats, is now clearly the watchword for Republicans such as Bobby Jindal, Rand Paul and Paul Ryan. The need for a Republican reset was repeatedly driven home at the partys annual winter meeting here last week.
The appeal for reform is coming from unexpected quarters within the GOP--including religious conservatives who appear to be moving toward a more libertarian view of the governments role on same sex-marriage and other divisive social issues....
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul told a gathering of Ohio Republican officials on Saturday that the GOP needs to be more welcoming to people who disagree with core GOP tenets on social issues such as same-sex marriage.
Were going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues and get people into the party, Mr. Paul said....
Weve got to stop being the stupid party, Mr. Jindal told the 168-member Republican National Committee. Its time for a new Republican Party that talks like adults. We had a number of Republicans damage the brand this year with offensive and bizarre comments. Im here to say weve had enough of that....
On same-sex marriage, an issue which libertarian-minded members of the GOP and younger voters think often breaks with the party orthodoxy, Mr. Norcross has similar advice.
I oppose same-sex marriage, and as a lawyer who has done a lot of adoption work, I find adoption by same-sex couples not in the best interest of the child in an overwhelming majority of cases, Mr. Norcross said. But we are losing that battle with most voters the polls are going the other way, rapidly.
Do not exclude people on the basis of their disagreement with you on those issues.

Or will it continue to slip into irrelevance?
Freedom for what? Abortion? Gay marriage?
I certainly will not be part of one that wars against the truth, as the democrats do.
It is losing because the GOP establishment has no clue how to win elections. The Bush brand of Republicanism ruined the party brand in the 2006 and 2008 elections. Tea Party conservatism is what put the GOP back in charge of the House and gave them a place at the table again. The GOP-E had their way in 2012 and managed to lose to about the weakest incumbent Dem in modern history.
So what is the lesson to these idiots? Why, more of the same of what loses elections. It used to only be Dem liberals that thought the answer to continued failure was to do even more of what is failing in hopes that it eventually succeeds. That malaise is now firmly rooted in the GOP establishment as well.
As a party we need to boldly and unapologetically state the truths we know exist. Being watered-down Dems is not helping. It just drives away the conservatives and does not fool the Liberals who want 100% liberal.
A few silly statements by a few individuals is not the party line. Let’s get that straight, too.
Being a real American (not AINO) is still fine w/this old jathead !!!!!
Semper American!

“But”. There’s always a but.
Your position is rational and reasonable and morally superior to the position of our opponents, who advocate a position that would have been considered the ravings of a lunatic just 10 years ago
BUT
Democrat Lite? Let us turn into Sodom and Gommorah, just keep my taxes low? No thanks.
Candidates need to be coached on how to avoid the trap "gotcha" questions -- they don't need to abandon principles.
If you want to be taken seriously you need to start defending these articles you post.
lol. That is a loser strategy. They will never get the lib vote but they will most assuredly lose the conservative vote.
But we do have some lovely parting gifts for you. A Milliom Mom's membership card and 100 free comments on Mark Morford's blog.
Republicans need to learn to stay off of the stupid liberal programs on TV and start their blabbering. It is as if they are seeking their moment of fame.

We live in an environment where democrats can ask if the flag planted on Mars is still there, or they can muse on camera if all those human beings on Guam might cause the island to tip over.
But let a republican make a reference to “legitimate rape” or to anything else with which the leftists can inflame idiot women, and we get informed we’re the ones who must abandon all of our conservative principles.
Bu Bye Ron Paulian.

You got the zot for that???
How interesting. Especially as there are hundreds of liberal FReepers that not only agree with you, but would argue that your comments are not liberal enough.
Tenure certainly matters here. My advice: Wait a while. Re-join under a new FReep name. Lay low. Make innocuous comments for a year or so. Then come back and make that same comment. You’ll be applauded.
