Despite the best efforts of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and like-minded groups to make sure this business remains unfinished, reducing gun violence remains stubbornly high on the nations agenda.
This is partly due to the ravings of Wayne LaPierre, the NRAs executive vice president and spokesman, who almost single-handedly, or single-mouthedly, is making the pro-gun argument sound even crazier and more irresponsible than it is. And thats saying something.
This weekend, LaPierre treated viewers of Fox News Sunday to some of his lunacy. Anchor Chris Wallace gave him the opportunity to disavow the NRAs shameful ad accusing President Obama of hypocrisy for supporting gun control while his own family is protected by armed Secret Service agents. LaPierre stuck to his guns, such as they were....
In Senate hearings last week, LaPierre portrayed life in the United States as one long horror movie. What people all over the country fear today is being abandoned by their government, he said. If a tornado hits, if a hurricane hits, if a riot occurs, that theyre going to be out there alone, and the only way theyre going to protect themselves, in the cold, in the dark, when theyre vulnerable, is with a firearm.
He left out the zombies.
With so many members of Congress already bought and paid for, its understandable that the NRA would feel a measure of confidence. But I believe the pro-gun lobby is seriously overplaying its hand, and that the wind has shifted....

The thread he posted just before this one bashes the Catholic Church. O3 is in the air...
Newbie, why are you posting this crap from Eugene Robinson of all people?
IBTZ!
I don’t think this Washington Post article is painting the true picture of the current status of the gun control debate in the American public.
I believe that the NRA and the outspoken gun-rights advocates are being very effective with their arguments. Why else would the Senate (Harry Reid) back away from Feinstein’s proposal (but will probably resort to “trickery” to get things in it passed)?
The Dem’s are most definitely losing this arguments to the NRA, and the Washington Post is doing what all good Democrats do: When they are losing a debate on an issue, they “Alinsky” their opponents.

Sen Feinstein did bigger damage to the AWB movement. To the ones who did not look at her bill, they assumed the gov want to ban the AK-47 and AR-15, and everything else is OK. Problem is her bill if adhered to would ban all semi autos with detach mags including wooden stock rifles (hunting rifle); lever action rifles (cowboy type rifles) and most 22LR rifles (guns used to hunt small game like rabbit, squirel and smaller. IAW most guns currently owned by gun owners would be banned except one shot repeaters. Thus in the future if two or more home invaders break into your house, your family will have to form a late 19th Century fire by rank with one shot repeaters if forced to engage with home invaders with semi auto pistols with illegal 15+ shot mags, while your family will fire one shot and forced to reload. I think Custer learned the hard way at Little Big Horn (Indians with lever action repeaters vs one shot US Army carbines). That is why NRA ranks swelled by 500,000+ in one month including Dem blue collar that voted for Obama in 2012.
Robinson is projecting. You know what projecting is don’t you troll?
Projecting is attributing one’s own faults to others, because one cannot handle the truth.
I’m betting Eugene is one of those lefties that doesn’t know the difference between “semi-auto” and “select fire”.
The NRA has learned it’s lesson well and does not need to apologize for anything in it’s defense of the 2nd Amendment.

YET ANOTHER NOOB(DU “Plant?)!
We don’t need gun control.
We need liberal control.

The NRA has been shooting itself in the foot? You are either believe leftist propaganda or you are a leftist. Which is it?
The NRA had the guts to suggest that Newtown hire armed security guards for their schools and was mocked and denigrated by the Libtard Press. Now Newtown has voted to hire armed security guards for their schools.
Even the Press is admitting that the NRA is winning the inflence war over gun control.
“accusing President Obama of hypocrisy for supporting gun control while his own family is protected by armed Secret Service agents.”
Yeah, we shouldn’t accuse anyone of hypocrisy when they are being hypocrits!
Just ask some residents of New Jersey.
When you count on the Government to meet your needs, you're setting yourself up for huge disappointment.
Depend on yourself - and be prepared to defend yourself.
Obviously you don’t know that FR is a pro-gun conservative site. I believe you’d feel more comfortable posting on MoveOn.org.
Bullsh!t!!! People are joining the NRA in droves.....Liberals like Eugene Robinson and Chris Wallace are always going to prsent consrvatives in this light. Question remains are Obamas kid’s more valuable than ours?
Hehe, your propaganda dump won’t work here. The NRA’s tactics and bold positioning are actually improving its image. Lefties do not understand the idea of moral clarity. We have a right to live. It’s a God-given right and everybody intuitively gets that, even most libs. And if we have a right to live, we have a right to defend our life, whether as individuals, families, or states. Everybody gets that. And that’s why the NRA and others are in a position to win this big. Propaganda to the contrary is just embarrassing, for the author, and for the pawns who believe it. Sorry. Like I tell some telemarketers, get a different employer. You can do better.
Oh, and welcome to FR. :)
Actually the NRA has over 4 million members and is quickly approaching 5 million thanks to Odumbo.
Only an absolute troll (like you) would post an article by an avowed socialist such as Eugene Robinson and agree with the article. Do us a favor and take your mindless drivel elsewhere.
