LOVELAND, Colo. A 2nd grader has been suspended from school in Loveland for a make believe game he was playing.
The 7-year-old says he was trying to save the world. But school administrators say he broke a key rule during his pretend play.
I was trying to save people and I just cant believe I got dispended, says Alex Evans, who doesnt understand his suspension any better than he can pronounce it.
Its called rescue the world, he says.
He was playing a game during recess at Lovelands Mary Blair Elementary School and threw an imaginary grenade into a box with pretend evil forces inside.
I pretended the box, theres something shaking in it, and I go pshhh.
The boy didnt throw anything real or make any threats against anyone. He explains he was pretending to be the hero. So nothing can get out and destroy the world.
But his imaginary play broke the schools real rules. The school lists absolutes designed to keep a safe environment. The list includes absolutely no fighting, real or imaginary; no weapons, real or imaginary.
Honestly I dont think the rule is very realistic for kids this age, says Alexs mom Mandie Watkins.
Alex is like a lot of 2nd graders, perpetual motion. His mom says the little boy doesnt understand why pretending to be a soldier was wrong. I think that when a child is trying to save the world, I dont think he should be punished for it.
At least one other parent FOX31 Denver talked to agrees with her.
Thats just a boy growing up, says Elliott Orozco. Thats what I did and I didnt become a bad guy.
Nevertheless, Alex will be playing at home rather than in the school yard because his mom says hell stay home until this can be worked out.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Sounds like the demagogues who made up this stupid rule are more out of touch with reality than the boy who was playing make believe. I guess it's never too early to begin to emasculate the male.
Mom ought to keep him home for good and homeschool him and give him his childhood back.
Liberals are the epitome of hypocrisy! They promote, endorse, and idolize the Hollywood left’s violent and vulgar on-screen movies and music videos. They condone the gaming industry’s violent portrayal of cop killers. They want to take away second amendment rights but have entourages of heavily armed body guards. Now they want to stifle creativity and imagination in elementary school students; dictate how they think. Kinda reminds me of some twentieth century Europeon and Asian nations.
I would recommend that everyone watch the documentary film called “The War on Kids.” It is eye opening and left me speechless.
The people that came up with this are not foolish or ridiculous. They are deadly serious. These policies were scientifically crafted, designed and tested based on what went on in Soviet gulags and North Korean prison camps. This is pure brainwashing. They want to deliberately create automatons that can't resist because the very idea of resistance has been purged from their minds.
They wouldn't have dared done a thing.
Zero tolerance, “real or imaginary”.
Good thing talking about sex and sex techniques won’t make the kids want that...
Not far from Ft. Collins, and like Ft. Collins, according to some of its residents, very conservative. Yeah, right. I’ve worked in schools. Some of the teachers hated boys in general. That shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who’s been in a university education program during the past thirty years or so.
