I am going to let my subscription to Sports Illustrated lapse when it runs out this year. I hope lots of other people will do the same. Like too many other publications, the magazine has become dishonest, dishonorable and even occasionally despicable in its conformist, lockstep left-wing bias. Republican politicians and conservative positions are routinely insulted in articles having nothing to do with either. Yawn-inducing left wing predictability is brought to the discussion of every issue. No SI writer is allowed to disagree with leftism ever. Despite its great photographs and occasionally good athlete profiles, the magazine has remade itself into crap in the name of political conformity.
For me, the Super Bowl issue with its smarmy and poorly reported article on religion in football was the last straw. The article was not an offense to God, it was an offense to journalism. Mark Oppenheimer, a left wing anti-religion writer for the left wing New York Times, among other left wing venues, does the left wing hit job on football players of faith. Not surprisingly, he is also the author of a hagiography of the Christian-bashing gay bully Dan Savage. (This blog has always supported gays and gay rights, but to my mind, Savage has no more place in serious debate than the Westboro Baptist gang.)

When will Americans wake up to the fact that leftists are intolerant and rude, that they bully their political agenda into every place they enter, and have no common decency toward those with competing viewpoints?
So true. The politics in SI is driving out - has driven out! - the sports. In the last several months there have been pieces on the struggles of the Palestinian ‘national’ soccer team and the difficulties facing transgender athletes. And rare is the article that does not find some way to mention obama....
The SI article argues that the focus on religion in sports is a recent phenomenon, and that back in the 60s and 70s it wasn’t emphasized. That is absolutely laughable.
I think most people only purchase SI for their one issue a year.....
Based on the behavior of leftists , one can imagine what the Bolsheviks were like after they won the Russian revolution.
I first subscribed to SI around 1964. I let my subscription lapse around 1994 because of their left leaning ideology.
When they started on their Sierra Club kick around 1985 or so that was the beginning of the end. Up until then it was A great magazine. I hope all “right thinkers” stop subscribing.
SI is from the same greag people who bring you TIME...
All part of the plan of the Marxists to control/brain-wash us from kindergarten through life with 24x7x365 Marxist thinking. Used to be called Communism, now it’s Progressivism.
My mom was a typist with the FBI in WWII, and saw it all, taught me what they were doing with tons of documentation in the ‘50’s and 60’s, which I have today.
Nothing new here.
All is going according to plan.
Talk radio and Fox News (leaning more left every day) will go down before long......
...and with the internet, who needs that anymore either.....
You mean like DumpsterUnderground.com?
Good for this guy getting rid of SI...
When will the rest of you guys figure out that the “swim suit” issue is only to keep you suckers buying this rag...buy Playboy instead, if you must.
Magazines have been crap for the last 20 years.
My dentist places a copy of SI in her waiting room....right next to the New Yorker. Figures.
Mark Oppenheimer has the right to hate us.
We have the right to stop all subscriptions, ban hateful companies, and turn off MSM 'news' shows.
I doubt there's enough liberal elites to keep this magazine going. Hello dust bin of history...
It is hard to find any magazine these days that is not liberal or left-leaning. Articles that have nothing to do with religion or politics always seem to find a way to get a dig in some way. I guess it must be to placate the gods of the left so that they allow them to be published.
I discovered SI’s left-wing bias at least 20 years ago, and to this day, avoid it for sports’ “reporting.”
I used to get it and the old newspaper type edition of the Sporting News in the 1960s. SI was turning into junk and I quit way back in the late 1970s. Not just left crap, but their mags were just getting boring.
