MENTONE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say at least eight people were killed and 27 injured in a collision involving a tour bus and pickup truck in Mentone.
The accident occurred at California Highway 38 and Bryant Street. Highway 38 is closed in both directions.
A spokesperson for Caltrans said the bus originated from Tijuana.
At least two passengers were also reportedly trapped in the wreckage. Eleven others are described as “walking wounded.”

damn... just talking about head-on collisions today because we saw one almost happen... so damn scary... you can be doing everything right and some idiot comes along and drives on the wrong side of the road...
We must, of course, ban bus travel. For the children.
Witnesses say brakes on bus were smoking and on fire.
Bus direction was down a steep, dark and winding road.
KTLA video shows multiple yellow tarps on and off the road.
There is nothing left of the truck it hit.

Just limit buses to 7 passengers (in NY) and 10 passengers elsewhere.
And of course, background checks to purchase diesel fuel.

Assault Busses such as this should be limited to Ten Seats, including the Driver.
In New York, the legal limit should be limited to no more than Seven Seats. If the Bus is equipped with Ten Seats, Three of those Seats must remain unoccupied at all times. Police will be required to stop these Busses randomly to be sure the Seating Requirement is followed.
That is the only way lives will be saved.

A TOUR BUS FROM Tijuana to Mentone seems odd. What makes a bus a TOUR BUS? The article says officials from the Mexican consulate are there.
