It was a remake of "Parts: The Clonus Horror" which was also expertly riffed by Mystery Science Theater 3000.

The Island was a commercial Hollywood ripoff of Kazuo Ishiguro's great novel Never Let Me Go. Ishiguro's book had a deeper meaning that was completely absent from that movie. I won't spoil the "fun."
