After another year of Obama there may not be any first world areas left in America at all- except for DC of course.

As unbelievable as it may seem for younger people, New Orleans was actually quite nice prior the JFK presidency. It was safe, albeit rowdy even then, but not dangerous. There were still movie theaters and fine department on Canal Street if you wanted to take a break from the action in the Quarter.

There is also the famous “French quarter”, home to Mardi Gras.

Prior to JFK, ALL cities were safe.
