Chris Kyle, known as the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history, was reportedly shot and killed on Saturday. Kyle was shot point-blank while helping another soldier who is recovering from PTSD.

Nicknamed The Devil of Ramadi by insurgents, Kyle served four tours of duty in Iraq and had 160 confirmed kills as a sniper.
The military needs to rethink this style of therapy. Clearly not safe for those helping. Case and point.
That’s 160 reasons why someone would want to kill him.

Just occurred to me.....
Was the alleged murderer legally qualified to own a firearm after being diagnosed with PTSD?
yes! wth??? helping someone with PTSD at the shooting range... damn...
“Routh was driving Kyle’s truck at the time of his arrest “
With all the military shooters around.....how did he manage to get away?
what is weird to me is the two victims were “found dead.” weren’t there employees around?
A diagnosis of PTSD does not disqualify anyone from owning a firearm. PTSD takes many forms, including nightmares, difficulty being around other people, etc. and does not necessarily mean the sufferer is a ticking time bomb. Once such a person makes threats to harm themselves or others, then their firearms may be taken by order of a judge for safekeeping - that goes for anyone, though.
Thanks, Vet.
Great explanation.
I believe the idea of prohibiting a vet with PTSD from having a gun was proposed by some liberals. As you noted - the symptoms can vary greatly. And it is probably hard enough to get them to see a doctor about it already - just think if they knew their guns would be taken away how hard it would be to get help for these guys.
Many veterans with PTSD have no violent disposition, and are in fact disgusted by violence as they have seen so much of it. Some of those PTSD sufferers have a difficult time adapting to a civilian world where loud noises don’t necessarily mean anything. Their minds are still programmed to trigger a startle response at every “pop” or “bang”. The range helps desensitize them while simultaneously giving them something to focus their mind on (shooting a target). Since most Marines and Soldiers are proficient marksmen already, the range is a good place to do all this.
I would be surprised if SEAL Kyle was taking someone to the range who had exhibited a violent disposition or made any threatening remarks.
You are correct, the liberals wanted any VA employee to be able to revoke the firearms rights of any veteran whom they thought “shouldn’t have a gun”, without any subsequent judicial hearing. I (and other gun rights advocates) oppose this because all other citizens, even those who have had mental health treatment, get a hearing before a judge either before or after their firearms are taken for safekeeping. The proposal for veterans would deprive them of due process and subject them to the whims of VA employees, without any fair hearing in the judicial system.

Sad and very unusual.
This is like a predictable B movie. Case to confiscate and refuse veterans guns because of mental illness. Planned????? Remove the threat, especially the well trained threat.
We do it all the time, HAVA helps vets to get over PTSD by taking them out to enjoy the field.
It is part of the recovery process.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and many friends of former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle tonight. Todd and I first met Chris in Pella, Iowa, when he helped out with security for the premiere of the film The Undefeated. And later we became friends with Chris when he was on Stars Earn Stripes with Todd. Chris was a wonderful man, a good friend, and a true American hero who loved our country and served honorably. He was loved and admired by so many, and he will never be forgotten.

Obama will play this for all its worth.
