Aaron Klein, owner of Sweet Cakes in Gresham, Oregon, is the subject of a state investigation after one of the brides-to-be filed a complaint.
An Oregon baker has refused to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple, allegedly calling them 'abominations unto the Lord.'
Aaron Klein, owner of Sweet Cakes in Gresham, is the subject of a state investigation after one of the brides-to-be filed a complaint.
The woman claims Klein refused to take an order from her partner when he learned the cake was for a gay marriage.
Oregon Attorney General's civil enforcement office is now looking into the case to determine whether the baker broke the law by discriminating against the couple.
The Oregon Equality Act 2007 outlaws discrimination by an individual or a business against people based on their sexual orientation and gender identity.
Klein denied calling the women 'abominations' but admitted to rejecting their custom.
'I apologized for wasting their time and said we don't do same-sex marriages,' he told KATU.
'I honestly did not mean to hurt anybody, didn't mean to make anybody upset, (it's) just something I believe in very strongly.'
He told the news station his religious beliefs were more important than making money and the state law. Religious: The bakery has clear symbols of Klein's faith on its walls, pictured
'If I have to be, I guess, be penalized for my beliefs, then I guess, well, that'll be what it is,' he said, adding that, in his view, his constitutional rights should override Oregon law.
'My First Amendment rights allow me to practice my religion as I see it,' Klein said.
The case will likely fall to a judge to decide. The women said they didn't want to talk about the complaint until they received further legal advice.

Government attacks religion around the edges. Sure, the government says, you have the right to free exercise of religion. But this particular job or activity is only 23 percent religion and 77 percent business. We will take your tax exemption away unless you allow gays to use this particular facility or engage in this particular activity.
I think businesses should have the right to serve or not serve anyone they please. To deny that right, as now-Senator Ran Paul once pointed out, is a denial of our property rights. Once big government gets its big foot in that door, all bets are off. The gay Oregon law is proof of that.
Mr. Klein has crosses hanging on his walls, a pretty good indicator that he's not Jewish.

Lots of FReepers believe they can spot-the-Jew by someone’s last name, magically transforming Germans and other Europeans into Jews. Not even Sarah Palin and Pope John Paul II are spared.
Given the intermarriage rate in the USA, someone with even a last name like Cohen or Levi is only about 50% likely to be Jewish.
“I thought a business had the right to refuse service to anyone.”
Should be, but now that it’s become a “civil rights” thing in many states, if you don’t want to do business with them you are “violating their civil rights.”
Your right not to help celebrate abomination is not considered, apparently.
I'm a born again Christian (there's no other kind) first and a Baptist 2nd, and I believe my local church would give up it's tax free status when, not if, it comes down to a choice between obeying God's Holy Word or relinquishing it's tax exempt status. If I'm wrong about that matter I will leave my current local church and look for another one that has a strong Christian backbone like the great Apostle Paul's. In his Holy Spirit-inspired epistles he told us to obey government's JUST laws which are ordained by God, but not to obey Caesar when his UNJUST laws conflict with God's commands. I don't think there is any question about whether or not a government order to tolerate or ignore a gross sin such as homosexual depravity is NOT ordained by God since He identifies homosexual acts as a prominent one of the gross sins that the antediluvian people practiced in their heyday, (see Romans ch 1, v 26-27) and by so doing brought down God's judgment on their depraved civilization.
Simply said, I will NOT be a member of any so-called church or denomination that tolerates the practice of homosexual depravity and/or approves same-sex "marriage" by it's members. If that means paying higher taxes than are paid by those Christians who are willing to compromise with gross sin in exchange for a tax exemption so be it.
LOL! Home run, crip.
Bingo!
Liberals tell us that the Bible has no place in modern life because it was written 2000 years ago and doesn't apply today because "It's the 21st century now...."
Now it's the same argument they use against the FIRST amendment AND in justification of Obama's war on guns and the SECOND Amendment because THEY were written over 200 years ago and don't apply to today because "It's the 21st century now...."
My Grandmother always used to say that when people don't know what they're talking about or don't have any facts to back them up,they just tell you what year, decade,or century it is......"
Ironically. In Russia today his rights would have been protected.
For what it’s worth, I watched some youtube videos last night that exposed how the music industry has been subverted and how homosexuality is one of the prominent tools of the devil. It was disturbing to learn all the sneaky things I’ve missed; much of the other stuff was obvious and blatant, ie. rap/gangster nonsense, but other music and musicians, I admit I had no idea.
The wheels have flown off and morals are in the ditch.
I pray for relief in this time of vile human history.
My wife's grand mother's maiden name was Cohen, no, she wasn't Jewish either.
I'm presently reading in the Torah (I'm not Jewish either).
I got interested recently when someone posted a picture with a caption that "the Hebrews came out of Egypt armed", this doesn't jibe with the Old Testament version, so like a good little Baptist boy, I started studying to learn more.
It would be helpful if I could read the Hebrew text in the original language but I can't.
hehe
I tend to resist Procrustean readings of the Torah!

It’s easy to forget that being jailed because of religious beliefs has been the rule, rather than the exception.
...and for 200+ years, we were the exception, but I guess that experiment has ended.
You’re right...Government will have a lot more to do than screw with Christians...but they will do that too.
Within thirty years it will be politically incorrect to go to a Christian service. It will be akin to smoking in public.
Add another one to the growing list of hundreds of instances of homo-fascism that the Gaystapo will ignore or deny.
You say some good, reasonable things.
Unfortunately I think most churches and conservative groups are wedded to their finances, including the tax exemption.
As a result, Chick-Fil-A and the Boy Scouts are caving in to financial and media pressure and backing away on the homosexual issue.
Exactly. If I had the time I could make a list of the liberties we have lost in that manner during my 75 years on this ball of dirt. In one way it makes it easier for me to contemplate my eminent departure from here to reside in a far better place.
My main concern now is the future of my kids and grand kids, what kind of world will they have to live in 40-50 years from now? Not the same one I once knew and loved, that's for sure.
