Ive ever seen smoke coming out the top that way. It is a ported barrel to compensate for barrel-rise. A common modification.

Not that far back. You lose leverage, plus muzzle velocity.
All ports that I've seen have been within the last inch or so of the barrel.

Ok, I stand corrected. Still an odd smoke pattern in the day of smokeless powder, plus he only seems to have one hole. lol

Furthermore, only one side of the ports seems to be working. I guess the other side (left side) is stopped up? The bottom screw in choke tube is missing too.
Poor gun safety/maintenance, IMO! ;)
