WASHINGTON President Obama has taken on N.B.A. stars on the White House basketball court, golfed at the air base that houses Air Force One and even tried to polish his legendarily woeful bowling at the presidential lanes.
But now it turns out that he has picked up a new hobby: skeet shooting at Camp David.
At least that is the way he tells it. In an interview published last week, Mr. Obama said that he and his guests shot clay pigeons all the time at the retreat in the Maryland mountains, a revelation that surprised many and drew a fair bit of skepticism. And then on Saturday, the White House released a photo of Mr. Obama skeet shooting at Camp David in August.
The notion of the president taking aim at targets flung into the air captivated some in the political and social media worlds at a time when he is pushing Congress to enact sweeping restrictions on assault rifles and high-capacity magazines. Conservatives scoffed, comics mocked, a congresswoman challenged him to a skeet-shooting contest, a fake picture of an armed Mr. Obama circulated on the Internet, and the White House tried to make the whole matter go away.
It was a surprise to a lot of people in the industry when we saw that and heard that, said Michael Hampton Jr., the executive director of the National Skeet Shooting Association, whose 35,000-member rolls do not include the president. But officially we have no idea whether he does participate or not. Only him or his people would know that.
Mr. Obama is hardly the first politician to draw scorn for boasting of experience with guns...

First, the question of how low he holds the rifle. It could be that he’s waiting for the skeet to fall near the ground, which is a more challenging shot. Frankly, I doubt if he’s that good. Or it could be that he’s doing target practice, but released this shot to cover his earlier gaffe.
How do we know this was taken last summer? Is anyone familiar with the area around Camp David? Would it be likely to be that green at this time of year? I shouldn’t think so. So either it’s photoshopped, which I don’t see any signs of, or it was taken before winter came in.
Second, he’s holding it much too high on his shoulder. If it was a real bullet he was firing, it would probably damage his shoulder, and really hurt. But if it was a vented blank cartridge, it might not have much recoil.
Finally, why would they take this photo in the first place? I suppose it could have beend taken any time, like that crazy photo of Johnkerry pretending to be a hunter. But on the whole, it would probably turn off as many of his crazy lib supporters as it would appeal to NRAers. Who knows? Maybe they took it and were saving it in case they needed it for some strange reason, like Kerry tried to do.
In addition to looking like he’s shooting black powder skeet, the picture just plain looks fake. The gun looks to be a bit larger than it ought to be for proper proportion, and it appears to me that in addition to the stock being high on his shoulder, his left thumb is in front of his eye. I laid a straight edge along the guns rib and it intersected 0’s head above his eyebrow.
Not bad for government work though I guess
You know, I can honestly say that I have never seen one single person of color on the skeet or trap range.
They don’t swim well either for some reason.
Heck, Ellie May Clampett shot skeet with her slingshot!
You don’t need to swim when you can walk on water.
Heck It doesnt even look like he has the trigger pulled! Plus look at his cheek against the stock. If the gun was mid recoil it shoulve been pushing his cheek back.
How expensive is the shotgun he’s holding?
Odd, that Obama is a tall man at 6’1”, looking so clumsy with a long gun.
Maybe he is a beginner and they have them set up like t-ball for the kids.
I noticed that. Why are the holes on the left side of the barrel smokeless?
Another Photoshop Oop’s! We forgot the other holes! Dang.
I was thinking the same thing.
When I was a really little kid, we had a plastic toy that you stomped on a pump and it blew a plastic ball up in the air and you were supposed to swing at it. We have some funny home movies of us kids trying (and flailing).
Of course the gun should be touching his cheek, we all know that. But shouldnt the cheek be moving aft due to recoil? Answer of course it should. By the way been shooting my entire life.

sorry that did not come out right - this is the metadata
photo taken on Aug 4, 2012, altered Feb 1, 2013. Could just be cropping or contract, but who knows.
Rest assured, we will never, ever suggest approval or endorsement of the _resident.
Obama is obviously shooting at the trap throwing machine. Since he never did it before and no one has to balls to tell him. Obama figured why waste time waiting for the traps Ill just go for the nest.
“Of course the gun should be touching his cheek, we all know that.”
Apparently, we don’t all know that. Check out the many replies where folks say something like the recoil would bust up his cheek. All I’m saying is, to me, it looks like someone, in this case the Bam’ster, shooting a shotgun.
Looks a lot like my Mossberg Silver Eagle O/U.
