The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has launched an internal investigation into a flawed storefront sting in Milwaukee marred by a series of missteps and failures.
The review was launched this week after a Journal Sentinel investigation exposed a 10-month federal operation during which an agent's Colt M-4 machine gun was stolen and burglars ripped off $35,000 in merchandise from the agency's phony store.
U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) on Friday joined a chorus of public officials from both parties demanding accountability from the ATF. Two other congressional letters were sent to the agency Thursday, including one demanding answers to 22 questions about the operation.
In her letter to Acting ATF Director B. Todd Jones, Baldwin repeatedly admonished the ATF for a "failed operation" in Milwaukee and encouraged it to "use all available resources" to retrieve the missing machine gun and other stolen items. Milwaukee police and the ATF continue to hunt for the weapon, which was stolen from an agent's SUV parked in a coffee shop lot in September.

They lost a machine gun ans $35,000 dollars worth of merchandise??
Who was running the store Pee Wee Herman?
Yeah I can see this investigation will go nowhere.
First, the ATF is starting to overflow with wannabe cops. I don’t know the method of hiring, but I’d say that they probably need to trim the force by forty percent and just start fresh with better recruitment.
Second, starting a fake business? You’d be smart to hire a guy who is an actual business manager, and two or three associates to help run the hour-to-hour side of the business. You just need to stand back with cameras and gain intelligence as the right guys run the operation and you just focus on bad guys.
Third and final....if you look at your brand name (ATF)....you’ve got trust issues across the nation. Everyone laughs at these screw-ups. You need a leader who comes in....find the guys with screw-ups, and fires them on the spot. Make examples, and tell the crowd that you won’t accept third-world policing organization in ATF.
But everyone knows 'you only need four or five rounds of birdshot!' MAX!!!
The ATF is thoroughly corrupt and out of control. They are the bottom feeders of FedGov law enforcement and no other agencies want them should ATF be disbanded. [That's why ATF is still in business; no other agencies want them.]
Dunkin Donuts?????
Which college professor did they put in charge of ATF to showcase his classroom theories on ending gun violence?
ATF review Milwalukee operation
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Since ATF has no legitimate Constitutional reason to exist, the agency needs to be disbanded, its field agents and management need to be either imprisoned or executed, its victims (such as the Reese family and too many others) be made whole by the confiscation and sale of agents’ property and wages or other assets, and its buildings torn down and the ground sown with salt.
