Hmm.so why is Uncle Chip so desperately trying to convince people that the kids were dead before the cops were on the scene.

One possible reason - Creepy Gene’s kids saw Soto shot. That means that the police were rushing down the hallway before the kids even left the classroom. There were many cops on the scene. People rushing to get to the school shooting.

Notice how Creepy Gene never mentions any cops anywhere - not even in the kids stories.

So the 6 surviving kids from Ms Soto’s class had to have left the building about 2 minutes before the mothers see them on the road to the firehouse.
