I know that politics can bring out strong feelings. Still, if you approve of this position by Sen. Donnelly, you might consider dropping him a note to say "thanks" if you haven't done so already. I think that kind of positive reinforcement helps politicians take good positions on the issues.
I didn't vote for Sen. Donnelly in the last election, but I appreciate his position on this issue, and I sent a note to let him know.

I think we could sway him and the senator from ND to switch to Independents caucausing with the Republicans. Can we find 3 more?

I like your optimistic attitude. Unfortunately, the chance of Sen. Donnelly switching parties is probably around zero. Correct me if I'm wrong about that.
The best we can hope for is that he'll occasionally be a Democratic "maverick" and occasionally work with Republicans.
If and when that happens, he'll get hammered by liberals in DC. They can be vicious. So it's important for conservatives back home to drop him a note to say "thanks."

Donnelley is gonna get a taste of what his party thinks of “moderates”.
