Senate Judiciary chair rejects Dianne Feinstein's assault weapons ban
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 1//30/13 | Carolyn Lochhead

The Democratic chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee did not endorse colleague Dianne Feinstein’s assault weapons ban at a packed Capitol Hill hearing on guns Wednesday in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., shooting. Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., called for “common sense reform,” that closes loopholes in current gun laws and enforces background checks. Buthe did not endorse Feinstein’s tougher ban. “I know gun store owners in Vermont,” Leahy said. “They follow the law and conduct background checks…why should we not try to plug the loopholes in the law that allow (criminals and the mentally ill)

The feinstein ban is a smokescreen; They want it and would love to get it, but they're introducing so much radical legislation, that they're planning on their usual trick (which they call a "compromise" - which is nothing of the sort) Well we'll give up the ban, but surely you won't object to closing the "gun show loophole" (which is also nothing of the sort) which is just as dangerous BECAUSE IT AMOUNTS TO CLANDESTINE GUN REGISTRATION.

GUN REGISTRATION has long been the wet dream of every liberal freedom hater out there. And if "strengthening the checks" as they call it, goes through they will have gun registration.

They want compromises. They really want registration and bans against certain smaller classes/groups possessing firearms, as they did with the VAWA and other laws. That’s the way to eventually disarming everyone. Disarm people accused of various things in divorce/cohabitation fights. Disarm those who have ever had some little neurosis or other. Perceived “depression” is a big one. Stress syndrome or whatever in veterans is another. Disarm most working class Americans who can’t afford to pay judges to wipe whatever blots on their records.

And eventually, the majority will outlaw firearms for everyone. It’s a conquer-and-divide and eventual class war effort. Then only the government-employed and/or connected folks would legally own firearms. That’s the fascist/socialist/commie plan. Look deeply into and before the Million Mom March effort against the Second Amendment, and you’ll see it. Also look into the opinions of global trade leaders on gun control.

Leahy is good cop to Feinswine’s bad cop. They are neither a friend to gun owners. Leahy is the D+ to Feinswine’s F-. A D+ average gets you kicked out of college. It’s not passing.

I can see the hoplophobes saying to themselves: “Great! Now this means that people will stop buying guns and ammo at a record pace!”

Heh-heh!
I think not.

“...why should we not try to plug the loopholes in the law that allow (criminals and the mentally ill)...”

Which was the GOAL and the exact point of this whole freakshow...

Outlaw private transfers and hand-downs.

The “ban” was theater; she knew it wouldn’t go through, but why not try anyway, as long as they get “something” - in this case, one more cut into our right to do what we please with our lawfully-owned, legally-purchased property.

F***’em. These pieces of garbage are transparent as hell.

The longer this stays in the headlines the longer the public is getting educated about the REAL issues.

Ex: the NRA is not primarily for hunting rights...it stands for defense against intrusive Gov't.

Keep it up, Dems. The more you talk on this the more we win.

It doesn't matter what “Leaky” or “Dingy Harry” say about “gun control.” We are one more Moonbat appointee to the Supreme Court away to losing the 2nd amendment. I hope all of the conservatives who stayed home last election instead of voting for that “Northeast Rino” remember that.

These bastards have bigger fish to fry like the Republicans in 2014. After that, all bets are off.

Firing off so much at the same time was going to result in at least one squib.

Then again, she had no intention of passing this garbage, which is why she larded it down.

I'm a reasonable guy. I'm willing to compromise.

In exchange for closing the non-existent "gun show loophole" I ask for two changes to federal law which will both override state gun laws.

What I give up is that every purchase of a firearm shall be accomplished with a federal background check via telephone. It shall be a federal crime to sell a gun to any person without performing such a check. This will apply to commercial and private sales.

Now here is what I want in return.

First, no person shall be required to maintain a serial number on any firearm which he owns.

Secondly, no government records or background checks shall be required for any transaction in which every party to the transaction who receives a gun also parts with a gun.

Because I was unfortunate enough to be born in the People's Republik of Kalifornia, I find myself in the position that the state or federal government have access to records of every firearm I own or have owned.

If the day ever came that it was practical for me to leave the state, one of my first acts would be to sell every firearm I own and purchase through private transactions an exact duplicate for each of those firearms.

My compromise for the gun-grabbers would allow me to accomplish the goal of recovering my privacy without having to leave Kalifornia.

This is exactly what should be expected. Registration is always a prelude to confiscation. This would be accomplished through taking advantage of another false flag event, such as a mass shooting or an event involving "Al-Qaeda" or some such. The feds and military are clearly gearing up for something--something big. This looks like a victory to our side until an analysis is conducted.

what show loophole? if you buy AT the show you have to abide by the background chk law.

Leaky leahy is just trying to take inheritance rights. or there should be a very specific private sale (staw man has always been illegal) and inheritance protection.
