Women could be great Navy SEALs, says head of Special Ops

The head of Special Operations Forces (SOF) says he supports the integration of women into the elite force.

“It’s time to do this,” says the organization’s top officer, Adm. William McRaven.

“We’ve had women supporting direct Special Operations for quite some time,” he added in remarks Tuesday morning at the Special Operations/Low Intensity Conflict conference in Washington.

The necessity, he said, is ensuring that all special operators are in peak physical condition. “The one thing we want to make sure [we do is] we maintain our standards,” McRaven said. ....

McRaven said that he has been reading recent Pentagon guidance about establishing “gender-neutral standards.”

Currently, he said, “we have no gender standards,” since it is only males who have been going through Ranger and Navy SEAL training, for example.

It’s important that there is not a two-tiered standard of physical requirements going forward, he adds.

That said, McRaven says he has no doubt that some women will flourish in the elite SOF community. “I guarantee you” that there will be females who come to the basic underwater demolition (BUD/S), the Navy SEAL course, “and do a phenomenal job.”

Russian claims for anything during WWII were always false. Two American pilots studied Russian claims for their pilots. They were often off by 3 or 4 hundred per cent.

Obviously they did shoot down German planes and their snipers killed many Germans but their figures are purposely inflated.

I have no idea about the Finn but would much more trust them than the Russians. BTW, the Germans were the most accurate, probably even under counting their aces victories because their methods were so detailed. Really amazing considering they had many with over a hundred victories and one with 352. The Americans were next to the most accurate.

The Japanese were the next worst but the guys who did the research did not believe they were purposely inflating numbers, just not very accurate.

We had the added avantage of being able to rotate out our pilots. The Germans and Japanese did not have that luxury. Our aces lived and passed on valuable info to the next group of pilots. This is one reason why we did not have aces with higher aerial kills.

The dummies in command forget all these history lessons. The Russian women fought because they were running out of men.

I think that is right. I know Erich Hartmann flew over a thousand missions. He claims he was never shot down but did have to crash land or bail out several times.

Interestingly several American pilots had a better kill per mission ratio than several of the German over 100 kill pilots.

I don’t think Germans deserve that much credit. They were as guilty in inflating their victories. They often claimed twice as much kills than Soviets could ever deploy to the area listing zero losses at the time despite presence of their numerous wrecks on enemy territory. Germans did some fantastic claims against the British too. But overclaiming was not intentional in most cases for both Germans and Soviets (how can you define a recoverable belly-landing on friendly territory?).
In any way, modern figures are verified using both sides’ archives.
Also I think it is pretty realistic if a female fighter pilot could shot down 5 to 11 German bombers during the Battle of Stalingrad. Much more realistic than for a German guy who claims over 220 kills on Western front.

As for snipers I have no idea how one may objectively check these claims. Both Finnish and Soviet might be a propaganda case.

Women have neither the upper body strength, lower body strength, bone density/size or biochemistry to complete high intensity training in any service no less special forces training. There’s always an exception to the rule but there aren’t enough exceptions to man (woman?) even one log in BudS or Ranger School.

Go to a search engine and study just a little about Gunther Rall, Adolph Galland, or Erich Hartmann and you will see what people who have studied their careers think of them.

I don’t like to get into vigorous discussions on the internet especially in situations where I can’t be absolutely certain I am right. One thing I am certain of to a high degree is that you are simply lying. No one could say as many stupid things as you without knowing they are not telling the truth.

You are welcome to the last word as I am not going to respond to you again.

Wow. You aren’t certain you are right and for that reason I’m certainly a liar (thus I’m curious on what exactly...) Nice conclusion and seems to be you may (claim;) a victory as soon as you aren’t responding anymore:))

Umm...I wouldn't put much faith in Soviet "history". They had about as much credibility as our msm, meaning none.

did some women participate in some military units for the Soviets during WWII after the Red Army's massive losses in the beginning of the war? Yeah probably.

Any kind of “history” has as much credibility as it’s writers are willing to put into.
For modern US historians MLK is a more important figure than Reagan.
Who knows, in a couple decades Obama may shadow Jefferson in school books.

I have no doubt that you are correct.

Think good thoughts and keep your powder dry.
