Egyptian Defense Minister Gen. Abdel Fatah al-Sisi warned Tuesday that Egypt could be facing collapse.
Al-Sisi explained that military units have been stationed in cities next to the Suez Canal, where riots have broken out, in order to protect the canal.
"The continuing conflict between political forces and their differences concerning the management of the country could lead to a collapse of the state and threaten future generations," Al-Sisi said in a speech to army cadets that was also quoted on the Egyptian military spokesman's Facebook page. Sisi said the country's economic, political and social challenges signify "a real threat to the security of Egypt and the cohesiveness of the Egyptian state".
Some see Sisi's statement as an attempt to remind Egyptians about the power of the military and as a veiled threat to opposition forces.
At least 52 people have been killed in riots that broke out a few days ago, at the two year anniversary of the uprising that toppled President Hosni Mubarak. Many of the casualties were in the city of Suez, where the military was sent to quell the riots.

That wacky Arab Spring thing doesn’t seem to be working out. Egyptians Gone Wild.
I hope their regime collapses, and when they exit, don’t let the door hit you in your Islamic Øbama.
Demoncracy in action.
I expect the magnificent details of this situation to be magnificently heralded by the magnificent CBS News program "60 (magnificent) Minutes."
The forces that will end up in control are the Military and the Money. They stay in the background manipulating events and the course
There was a video over the weekend of a firefight between people on a rooftop and people on the ground. You couldn’t figure out the sides...but if they’re having street fights like that, with both sides armed with “assault weapons” (LOL), something is up over there.
Well, the fact that a complete collapse of Egypt will probably mean the Copts and any other religious minority get wiped out, all the antiquities get looted or destroyed, and the Suez Canal closed might be a reason.
Other than that, it couldn’t happen a to nicer bunch of people.
Arab Inferno.
With Morsi and the MB in power the Copts or any other non-Muslims don’t have much of a future no matter what. But everyone has known that Egypt will eventually collapse since the Arab Spring. Tourism is now dead and without tons of foreign aid they have no hope.
They’re a banana republic without the bananas. Can’t feed themselves without huge grain imports and the foreign aid to pay. They are a total financial basket case but that was known long ago.
This is part of a scripted collapse which throws the entire ME into pandemonium.
Rameses and Nefertiti can do no wrong!
Yes, this might be one of Hillary!’s main accomplishments for a Nobel Peace Prize nomination.
They don’t have one reserved for her yet?
I don’t know what to think about the ME. The Arab “nightmare” is turning a bunch of marginal countries into failed states. I think we are one “man on horseback” away from a Caliphate. Do you think the Arabs or Moslems can produce a Simon Bolivar type character?
“...the Suez Canal closed might be a reason.”
Hey, maybe if the Suez is threatened, Britian and France will intervene along with Israel, only to be forced to back down by the US and Russia? /s
