The American approach to law enforcement was forged by the experience of revolution. Emerging as they did from the shadow of British rule, the country's founders would likely have viewed police, as they exist today, as a standing army, and therefore a threat to liberty. Even so, excessive force and disregard for the Bill of Rights have become epidemic in todays world. According to civil liberties reporter Radley Balko, these are all symptoms of a generation-long shift to increasingly aggressive, militaristic, and arguably unconstitutional policingone that would have shocked the conscience of Americas founders.
Rise of the Warrior Cop traces the arc of U.S. law enforcement from the constables and private justice of colonial times to present-day SWAT teams and riot cops. Today, relentless war on drugs and war on terror pronouncements from politicians, along with battle-clad police forces with tanks and machine guns have dangerously blurred the distinction between cop and soldier.

I think you’re responding to the wrong poster; I don’t see how that relates to anything I’ve posted on this thread.
The response was to the person who insinuated that anyone without a college degree has no right to a decent income and a happy life, regardless of his offerings to society. Those are people that I hate with a passion and would eliminate if I could...
Don't think that was you...
“The response was to the person who insinuated that anyone without a college degree has no right to a decent income and a happy life, regardless of his offerings to society.”
I’ll be the first to say a college degree has been cheapened to the point where it doesn’t guarantee anything at all; white-collar work is being exported in the same way manufacturing jobs have been for decades. I’m personally in a quandary where my sons are reaching an age where decisions have to be made; I feel there is much more of a living in trades than college degrees. It is very risky for a young person today to invest four years (and all that money) in college when it is so easy for companies to either send the work overseas or import cheap labor to undercut salaries here.
“Those are people that I hate with a passion and would eliminate if I could...”
Bit harsh there; it DEFINITELY wasn’t me...
