Years ago in my old hometown in SoCal, I recall the local fishwrap that did a Sunday paper 'Local' special section about a single mother who'd lost three children to 'gun violence'. Giant picture above the fold of a teary-eyed woman sitting in a darkened room illuminated by light coming from a slight opening in the curtains, the whole bit. How's she going to get by on what welfare pays in such a violent neighborhood? Whole article read like poetry, just chock full of schmaltz.

There was an accompanying editorial about the need to do something about guns, help 'at risk' children go to college and turn their lives around, and what we can all do to help, etc. You can probably guess.

My police officer friend in that city told me "Yeah, that woman is basically Ma Barker and raised a gang of drug criminals. The most recent dead one was about to get indicted for a gang slaying, but I guess the rival gang found him before our detectives did. By the way, that woman has relatives that were suspects in the murder of a police officer about 20 years ago but there wasn't enough evidence to pin anything on them. They ended up dying in prison while serving a sentence on other charges, so there's basically no case now."

This same city I grew up in was the city where a young black girl was shot to death in 1998 by policemen when they tried to wake her up as she slept in an idling car and didn't respond to commands. They broke her car window with a billy club and she woke up and pointed a gun at the officer nearest to her. The other cops just lit her up with 20-some rounds. The NAACP had a conniption fit and Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton organized a march through the city and got the blacks up in arms.

That girl who got shot to death was a member of another crime family in town. She had a relative who was the suspect in the shotgun murders of two city policemen in 1971, but he was finally acquitted of the crimes after key evidence was excluded from the trial. The police officers who shot the sleeping girl were all fired.

I went to high school with the daughter of one of the officers who was murdered in 1971. She was only two years old when he was slain.

I wouldn't go back to live in that rotten smoggy craphole of a city if you gave me a million dollars and made me mayor for life.

Why do reasonably intelligent people keep proposing gun control as if it would solve the murder problem?

The immediate answer that conservatives frequently offer is that the left seeks to control the populace but I believe that real the answer is even more sinister.

Consider the following:

"He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them"

"Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them."

"As I watched, this horn was waging war against the saints and defeating them"

"Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring--those who obey God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus. Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring--those who obey God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus."

These quotes from Daniel and Revelation all reference the SAME event; Satan's inevitable and successful attempt to finally eradicate Christians from the Earth.

This makes sense of the resolute yet irrational drive for gun control in our society. It also gives me pause.

Solution: move out of Chicago!

How many kids do you have to lose to Chicago thug-ism before you decide it’s time to leave?

Executive Mansion,
Washington, Jan. 25, 2013.

Dear Madam,

I have been shown in the files of the FBI a statement of the Special Agent in Charge of Chicago that you are the mother of four sons who have died gloriously on the field of crime. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I may, Insha’Allah, assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of Progress.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

B. Obama

They were not killed by guns. They were killed by people. There is no such thing as gun violence, because guns do not cause violence.

five (un-armed) people were gunned down Saturday in Chicago, including an (un-armed) man whose mother had already lost her three (un-armed) children to shootings.

What makes you say they were all un-armed? Fact is, most homicide victims in this country are hardly angels themselves and have their own extensive criminal records. They run with the wrong crowds, engage in the wrong pasttimes and piss off the wrong people. I'm sure many of these "victims" in bloody Chicago were found dead with their own illegal handguns tucked into the waistbands of their sagging pants, a time-old failure to draw faster than the other guy.

Chicago’s a ‘gun free zone’ - only the criminals are armed... On the lighter brighter side, Chicago’s liberal elites live in buildings with 24/7 paid security in the downstairs lobby - and they’re just fine - thank you very much...

Chicago politicians have free 24/7 police security - provided by the citizens of Chicago - even the mother of the dead children helps pay for the Mayor's security team... is that charming?
