Biases upfront: I'm a 46 year-old health nut obsessed with exercise and eating right. I dont smoke or drink, and there are supermodels who worry less about their weight. However, I do admire those who don't live like that; who might not live as long as I do, but will probably enjoy their overall quality of life more than my somewhat Spartan one.
Oh, and I also realize that this is America. And if people want to pursue happiness through a double cheeseburger and a pack of Newports, any joyless, left-wing bossy-pants who has a problem with that can go mind their own g***amned business.
But they're not going to.

Our species evolved to survive regular cycles of famine. If you didn’t pack on a few extra pounds, whenever there was plenty of food; you wouldn’t survive the next famine. Body fat is now considered an organ, as it produces the hormone leptin. When we lose too much fat, the remaining fat screams at our body to eat more. For many thousands of years, this was essential to survival. Now, when few in the western world ever know hunger, let alone famine, these survival mechanisms make it hard to keep our weight within an “acceptable” range.
The “ideal” weight tables seem to have more to do with aesthetics than they do with real health requirements. Interestingly, the aesthetic standards have changed dramatically over time. When food shortages, and periodic famine was the norm, plump people were considered most attractive. In men, the extra pounds was a display of wealth. In women, the extra pounds made it more likely the woman could bear and nurse healthy children. Only the poor were skinny. How times have changed!
His former wife Linda was a strict vegan but she died. So eating healthy will not guarantee you a long life. It doesn’t mean we should not try to eat a more healthy meals but that should be our choice not the government.
Yeah but it happens don’t it!
Many of them are Public Servants I will start the list with Charlie Rangle
Too true. I had a civilian working for me when I was still enlisted. he had never smoked, probably had less than a case of beer in his life, rode his bicycle to work to stay healthy and save money (product of the depression) yet at 57 years of age came down with the same type lymphoma that killed Jackie O. I've also known folks who smoked and drank and lived into their late 80s mid-90s.
> How about letting a**holes die? Publicly name them and refuse them all medical treatment. After all, theyre just going to die miserable and alone anyway. And they degrade the quality of life for everyone around them besides.
I say those people do MUCH more harm to society, both financially and emotionally, than smokers or fat people. So lets get rid of them!
If you do that no one else we get to receive medical treatment because the lines will extend for miles for years, especially around college campuses...: )
