Sorry to go against the grain, but this was a terrible, misleading show.
Yes, the Washington area (which is not just DC but also Maryland and Virginia suburbs) has benefitted from the huge spending tsunami. But that money goes into a lot of pockets, a lot of them doing legitimate work. Focusing obsessively on silly things like a Masserati dealer does not tell the whole story.
Some of those companies that the show “exposed” are doing essential work because the government itself lacks the skilled people to do the job. The affirmative action GS-15 who is vastly overpaid and underworked is backed up and made to look good by a bunch of private sector system analysts and engineers who actually come up with the new air traffic control system, or the satellite communications network, or the medical vaccine distribution.
There are overpaid parasites, like the lobbyists, lawyers, media whores, pundits, and the finance gurus, but they are not 100% of the populace, which includes a majority of average hard-working waitresses, salesmen, tradesmen, etc. They are not buying Masseratis and million dollar homes.
So, yeah, get your dander up, but the area is not the promised land for everyone like this show pictured.

No one is saying 100 percent of the D.C. population is elite....however, the demographics indicate Washington is roaring....and it is doing so because of all the spending...
The program is referring to the excess of the “ruling/elite” class of lobbyists and cronys...that has expanded due to our deficit spending. Of course there are hard working folks there who are not buying $$$$ wine and paying cash for Masseratis.
Oldbill has it exactly right. The DC area is certainly booming, but it’s not because DC is thoroughly corrupt. Most folks here are hardworking.
