Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Thursday that whether they are male or female "everyone is entitled to a chance" to become a combat soldier in a military that will now adopt "gender netural" standards. If members of our military can meet the qualifications for a job--and let me be clear, were not talking about reducing the qualifications for a job--if they can meet the qualifications for the job then they should have the right to serve, Panetta said at a Pentagon press conference. The Defense Department announced today that it would rescind its 1994 policy restricting women

Since one of the qualifications was “male”, and now it will not be “male”, it is clear that they ARE talking about reducing the qualifications.
this is going to get ugly when they try to draft women in the same numbers as men, and believe me, we will have a draft....
and sending young women into combat battle and having them killed in massive numbers will surely be the final death of our culture...
not to say that killing of young men is great, but is somewhat expected for the men to be the warriors...its not expected of young women...
my prediction is that we will have a draft because we're going to have war...
Good point, if she can carry a 80 pound pack for days on end, she will not give up easily ... however, if she is captured a beating will be the least of her worries.
Look, the Jessica Lynch thing failed because even though they tried to hold her up as a hero(heroine), they had to drop her like a hot potato when she testified that she had been raped multiple times by the religion of peace soldiers. They knew that that wouldnt fly.
So, they need some horribly, critically wounded (better yet . . . killed) female, preferably a he/she that they can build a legend around.
Forget preggers and periods...how will they *go* in a bottle, while stuffed into a van, en route to the combat zone? This could get interesting fast.
Nope. Because once it proves to be a disaster, we’ll all be dead...as our military will have proved incapable of defending us. And it WILL be a disaster.
Funny how many of the women in the military seem to think it’s a stupid idea. That bit of news and info ended up in the same place as widespread oppo to gays though so few will ever know.
Today we’re living in the luny bin and it’s OK.
So glad my CIC was a real American called Ike.
I like Rush Limbaugh’s idea
The All-American First Cavalry Amazon Battalion- have the certain kinds of women be housed at the same place, the same time over a period of time and therefore we would have a combat-ready group of women on PMS whenever we needed ‘em.
I predict this will end with diaster.
You completely missed my point.
Riiiiiiight.

“Wondering where he gained his vast combat experience, I checked his bio:”
You might also add some other significant things to that resume:
Bill Clinton’s Chief of Staff for 3 years
-assistant to Robert H. Finch, Secretary of the United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (which makes him a perfect fit for the Obama Administration)
Appointed Director for the Office of Civil Rights (which makes him a perfect fit for the Obama Administration)
Wrote book: (1971 book) Bring Us Together (which makes him a perfect fit for the Obama Administration)
He wrote the Hunger Prevention Act (Public Law 100-435) of 1988 and the Fair Employment Practices Resolution. He was the author of legislation establishing the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and legislation providing Medicare coverage for hospice service.....-(which makes him a perfect fit for the Obama Administration)
In short- he is a smart policy wonk who leveraged his liberal credentials into a job for the most left-wing administration in the history of the country. Like the good soldier he has been, he will support any inane policy of this inane administration
Probably, I am rather dense.
Will women now be required to register with the Selective Service upon reaching 18 years of age? If not, why not?
You are both right on!
I hope my reply did not send the wrong impression. I am against the drafting of women, women have a place and it is not in combat.
I guess, I’m in the “you wanna talk the talk, walk the walk” mode.
In my day, women had the power of feminity, the secret of womanhood, unknown to men, a mystery. Today’s women fail to see what sort of “power” that was.
As far as the death of our culture. Well, it’s dead already, it just hasn’t had a proper burial. Perhaps because the notice has not been sent, the invitations not sealed, not enough hardship has occurred for the younger generation to take a stand.
They have to be required. Any male of that age would be able to sue for discrimination.
Those offered this chance would quickly dwindle in event of a Draft.
Think East German Women’s Weight lifting Team circa 1968. Are those women really going to be sexually assaulted? By who?
