Rand Paul to John Kerry: If it was wrong to bomb Cambodia without Congress's approval, why is

Excellent, and not just the Libya stuff. Stick with it for Paul’s questions about how smart it is to be arming the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt when Morsi is already wheezing about Jews controlling the media in official diplomatic sessions with the U.S. If you’re wondering why it fell to Paul to ask this question instead of any of the more senior senators who preceded him, it’s because the Senate was perfectly happy to have Obama act unilaterally on Libya. The Iraq war authorization came back to haunt many of them; no one knew at the time how messy Libya might get. O did them a favor, left and right, by freeing them from a tough vote. But Kerry can’t say that so instead he squirms through a few minutes of how the two bombing campaigns are different because they just are. Frankly, Paul let him off easy. You could, if you chose, defend U.S. actions in Cambodia as a cross-border extension of the war already being fought in Vietnam. No such defense for Libya; if anything, the Libya war cut against the AUMF against Al Qaeda that was passed after 9/11 because, as we’ve recently learned, eliminating Qadaffi was actually a boon to jihadist groups like AQ.

My one criticism of Paul here is his failure to press Kerry on his proferred excuse, that Obama had no time to ask Congress for action because Qadaffi was about to put thousands of Libyan rebels in Benghazi to the sword. Nonsense. Go look at the timeline leading up to the west’s military intervention. Protests against Qadaffi broke out in mid-February; by February 21, Libyan diplomats were asking the UN for a no-fly zone. A day later Hillary was issuing public statements denouncing Qaddafi and by March 1 the Senate had

Often the best questions are put very easily.

Here is another: Why should the DOD be led by a man who THREW HIS MEDALS OVER THE WH FENCE...?

(indeed, it later turned out they were the medals of someone else...)

Why should the DOD be led by a man who accused soldiers of committing daily atrocities with the full knowledge and consent of their commanding officers?

The correct answer to Paul's question is very simple: The bombing in Cambodia was conducted by a Republican president, therefore evil and wrong. The bombing in Libya was conducted by a Democrat president, therefore just and righteous.

Each and every day, I detest these people a little more...

Rand Paul is a bright and articulate man. Elections however do have consequences. Obama and his ilk are now in firm control of the domestic and foreign policy of the United States. There were many questions that could be asked of the vapid left wing Kerry. But to paraphrase Clinton, What would be the point? Obama and his administration will implement their wrong headed policies. The best the Republicans can do is point out the absurdities and make sure the Democrats have ownership. Eventually the saga will turn. $16 trillion in Federal debt, $3 billion a day of continued deficit, trillions more in state and local debts,$100 trillion of unfunded entitlements, a debased currency and a bizarre anti capitalist EPA and Federal bureaucracy that curbs economic growth cannot end well. A foreign policy that will result in a new United Islamic Republic in North Africa, a nuclear armed Iran and chronic instability in Africa and Latin America. A Defense Dept. administered by politically correct career officers and wild eyed incompetent civilians will weaken the armed forces. The Republicans can do little to prevent these horrible policies and coming catastrophic events. However despite a hostile media, they must make it clear to what’s left of competent America that they have better ideas and disavow the liberal nonsense.

The MSM has convinced Americans that bombing the Khmer Rouge was a Nixon policy. You know better.

Whoa! My mistake, I knew better.

But recall that John Kerry made the same mistake. And still doesn't know any better...

Trey Grayson (the establishment candidate for that Senate seat) would not be doing anything, about anything.

Whoa! My mistake, I knew better.

No, you were right the first time, unless another bombing campaign that we're not aware of happened.

Cambodian Bombing Campaign

Pssst! Nixon became President in January 1969.

Carpet bombing that is, not the small scale stuff that LBJ ordered in the mid 60’s. Those didn’t amount to much and were in the wrong places.

Actually it occurred at the beginning of the Nixon presidency in March 1969.
