This is a USA Today article, and as such, can only be linked to.
Standards? What standards? We don’t do standards in the US anymore.
I am woman, hear me roar!!
“Hey, this is unfair...it’s my time of the month...blah...blah...blah!”
Sorry, but the standards will be lowered.
The article is a mess.
First, candidates attend the Officer Candidates School, 10 weeks. Then they attend the The Basic School at Quantico, 21 weeks.
After all that, the 2nd Lieutenants choose a military occupation specialty school, one of which is the Infantry Officer Course. It is a brutal course that has no gender separate standards and it is brutal and many men wash out and transfer to easier schools.
How about slaps to the face? That is generally accepted, even in ads. Two days ago, I was switching around the radio channels and came across sports radio (something I generally avoid). The male host said his wife told him to do something the prior day, he forgot and “when I got home, my wife gave me five fingers across the face.” Why do men deal with this? If he is trying to make a joke, how is that funny? That is a sign of submission. Would any woman say “Hey, my husband gave me five across the face?”
I'm not devastated by the demise of my country. Sorta like watching a friend with a terminal illness.
Nothing I can do about it. Hope it's quick and let's move on.
The founders saw this coming.
Women take up slots that the men have been put in for temporary duty for decades, either because they are injured and on light duty or because of family situations that can be handled in the short term. Now many of those positions are manned by women military members all the time and commanders do not have the options they used to have.
Nope, let them try. I'm a retired Ranger and have seen more than a few who thought they could get the job done, they didn't. If anything raise the requirements and shrink the force by ability and not this top down BS force reduction plan we are looking at.
The washout rate in Ranger school is pretty high. The ring out rate for the SEALS is also very high even for those who manage to pass all the physical tests to get that far.
Let the ladies try and we don't have to defend the outcome.
The very real fact is that many men who are in great physical shape fail to qualify for the ranger tab or the ability to call themselves a SEAL. I'm all for the women to have equal opportunities but no special treatment for anything at any time. Period.
What if the female passes, that doesn’t answer the other problems associated with females on the front lines. I think it goes far beyond just PT standards.
As an aside, did you do your training at Ft. Benning?
The whole military concept it changing to smaller more specialized units having more ability, maneuverability, quicker response/deployment, and firepower. This is the way of the future. Increase the standards so these smaller units are truly the best of the best. The rest will take care of itself.
Just wondering. I took the PAST for PJ’s in Basic and passed. I asked the SSgt if I washed out did I keep my guaranteed AFSC and he said no, so I said no. I think they just wanted a 100% commitment.
