Overextension is a classic way to snatch catastrophic defeat from the jaws of victory. Examples include Napoleon's invasion of Russia, Hitler's decision to start a war with Russia before he finished his war with Britain, and Operation Market Garden. The latter debacle was the origin of the phrase, "A bridge too far."
Overextension is often the result of hubris, the delusion of invincibility as exemplified by Napoleon and Hitler. The enemies of the Bill of Rights have similarly assumed they could exploit the blood of the murder victims to revive an agenda that had been put down hard in 2000, but their resulting hubris yielded at least three irrevocably self-damning statements that should turn their opportunity into a catastrophe.
This will not, however, happen by itself. If this material stays at American Thinker and on the referenced Web sites, it will do little good. We need to spread it as widely as possible via letters to the editor, personal contacts, and talk radio. We also need to use it to remind our Senators and Members of Congress that gun control is why Democrats lose elections.

Except that the dims always ask for much more than they actually want. That is how they get what they want.
It will be interesting to watch this unfold.
Obama curiously left out any mention of gun control from his inauguration speech while doubling down on all his other pet agenda, yet Diane Finestein is set to unveil new gun control legislation in the Senate tomorrow.
Meanwhile the masses are snapping up guns and ammo at a never before seen rate.
The gun grabbers probably won’t do well at the federal level, but at the state level, they will have some gains. Look at NY, they just gutted the 2a.
True enough.
One of their tactics is to take two steps past the line.
Then when the Pubbies complain the Dems say, “let us negotiate”
When all is done the Dems are still one step over the line and the Pubbies act like they stopped them in their tracks.
I think they are all in cahoots.
I keep hoping overextension will start to apply to homo “marriage,” the health care omnibus, abortion laws. . .
still waiting. . .
I know, it could always be worse.
You are wise to the game.
Absolutely.
We need to go on the offensive and push for pro-second amendment legislation (permit-free federal concealed carry, get rid of gun free zones, etc.).
It takes work, though. Write your legislators, even if they are leftists and you don't think it will do any good.
I just sent letters to my two democrat senators tonight. Don't leave me hanging.
Don’t we have 34 Rep Governors at the state level?
At any rate. all politics is local.
ping
We have 30 Republican Governors.
Some in name only.
... Australia’s Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research acknowledges that the gun ban had no significant impact on the amount of gun-involved crime:
In 2006, assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
Sexual assault — Australia’s equivalent term for rape — increased 29.9 percent.
Overall, Australia’s violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.
The reference adds that an Australian woman is three times as likely as an American one to be a rape victim.

They haven’t lost yet.
And I don’t think they will on this one.
True. And that is why we must fight vehemently in the Congress against ANY proposal or sub-part thereof.
Universal Checks is Registration, Registration is Confiscation unexecuted.
The GOPe is merely the “away jersey” of the lib-dems; flip side of the same coin.
I thought Obamacare was an “over reach” .........
Another example is Illinois, where a fed judge a couple of months back, ordered the Illinois legislature to pass some form of concealed carry law, Illinois being the only state that has none.
Instead of doing that, Illinois is now trying to pass even more restrictive laws.
The leftist elites have to know that many millions of Republican-hating average Dems own firearms and are as disagreeable to the idea of giving up their guns as the average conservative Republican. If they don’t know, then they’re dumber than they look.
I live in NYS - tell me about it!
