Officials in India-administered region of Kashmir have issued an advisory to residents to be prepared for a potential nuclear, biological or chemical war by building bomb-proof basements or bunkers and stocking up of essential supplies for two weeks.
The official advisory follows a recent flare up of tensions between India and Pakistan along the de facto Kashmir border. Two Indian soldiers and three Pakistani soldiers died in January near the Line of Control (LoC) in the worst bout of cross-border violence since both nations declared a ceasefire in November 2003.
“People should construct basements where the whole family can stay for a fortnight,” read the advisory, which was published Monday in the newspaper, Greater Kashmir.
If there is no basement, residents should construct bunkers in their front yards with toilet facilities, the notice said.
People were also asked to stock up candles, battery-operated lights, radios and non-perishable food and water.
The notice said that in the event of a nuclear attack, motorists should dive out of their cars in the direction of the flash to save themselves from being crushed by their vehicles.
Local officials maintained that the warning was only a part of a routine campaign to educate the public and that the information had been available on a government website for some time.

I have to admit I laughed at a few things, but I also think we don’t need to be at each other either. You may not think we’re allies, but India and the west has been allied for a long time. I am Canadian and I even have a Lee Enfield stamped India circa 1911.
You guys have a history of warfare with the muslims, whether or not diving out of a car in the direction of a flash is good advice or not is a moot point. We have a common enemy, and we should be focused on that rather than throwing stuff around at each other.

No argumentation there. It would be good if more people on the lower side of 49th parallel can develop just about enough intelligence to tell or even care about the difference between Indians and Pakistanis. There would be no stopping us from becoming allies. But I am not holding my breath for it.

There is a lot of anti-American sentiment around the world, lots in Canada too, it angers me because we’ve been allies for so long for starters. Also, the nuclear deterrent during the cold war kept the free world safe. I know many intelligent Americans, and I would even dare to say that when folks call Americans stupid and simple and what have you, I think they are confusing leftists for actual Americans.
Whenever people call Americans that, there is usually a very good reason behind it and not just out of blatant anti-American sentiment. And I am not even really talking about some random stupid commentators running their mouth on this thread. I am talking about people at higher level who make policy decisions.
How do you explain America gifting hi-tech weapons along with military aid to a rouge country like Pakistan even as they were acquiring nukes? Do Americans hate India that much? I dont know. The only other reason I can possibly see is that American politicians are stupid. Stone cold retarded stupid. Liberals, democrats, republicans, conservatives....all of them.

This is where you are sadly mistaken. Politicians are all flocks of feather regardless of whether the color is blue or red. It wasn’t Clinton who gave the Pakis F-16s it was Bush. Politicians play liberal or conservative depending on their political opportunity. Its a very old game.
