Along the I-95 corridor from Washington, D.C. to New York City, the mercury plunged into the single digits and teens this morning - the coldest readings witnessed in years. Factoring in a stiff wind from the northwest, wind chills tanked to near or below zero.
Washington, D.C.s low of 15 degrees was its coldest since March 3, 2009. New York City dropped to 11 degrees and both Baltimore and Philadelphia plummeted to 12 degrees, their most frigid low temperatures since January 24, 2011.

You get an arctic blast coming through here every now and then. It’s called Winter! 1977, Christmas ‘83, Reagan’s 2nd. Inaugural....it happens every now and then.
So, quite literally, Chill Out!

DC should have gotten the weather MOSCOW did! It was about 10 feet of snow, I believe.

Winter of 1779-1780: This winter was so cold that ice was piled 20 feet high along the Virginia Coast and stayed there until spring! The upper portion of the Chesapeake Bay was frozen allowing people to walk from Annapolis to Kent Island, Maryland. In March, a regiment of the Virginia Infantry marched from Falmouth to Fredericksburg. They walked across ice on the Rappahannock River which had been frozen since the previous November.
