The Worst School Massacre In American History Was ‘Gun-Free’

The worst mass-murder in a school in American history did not involve guns or shooters; it involved a bomb in an elementary school.
It didn’t take place in Connecticut ; it took place in a rural community in Michigan called Bath ..The perpetrator wasn’t a young man - he was 55 years old. And the attack did not occur this year or last year - or even this decade.
The year was 1927. In an unspeakably horrible crime, Andrew Kehoe killed his wife and family, set his farm on fire - and then set off 500 pounds of explosives in one wing of an elementary school. The blast killed 38 children aged 7 to 14, two teachers and four others —and the bomber himself. It would have killed more, but 500 pounds of dynamite that he had placed in another wing of the school failed to detonate. He did it 85 years ago — before the Depression, before World War II, the Cold War, Vietnam or the Gulf War.
It was the same year that Charles “Lucky Lindy” Lindbergh made the first successful solo transatlantic flight from the U.S. to France .
It was also the same year that the man who is now pope, Joseph Ratzinger, was born in Germany, along with future celebrity actors Roger Moore, Gina Lollabrigida, Janet Leigh, George C. Scott, Tom Bosley, Peter Falk, Joseph Campanella, McLean Stevenson, Robert Guillaume; singers Andy Williams and Porter Wagoner and athlete Althea Gibson. Think of it — in 1927, just as those individuals were coming into the world, 38 school kids in a rural Michigan town outside of Detroit, ranging from second grade to seventh grade — along with teachers and the school superintendent and others — left this world thanks to the insane
act of a mad bomber.
Andrew Kehoe hadn’t been bullied or abused. He had lost an election for town clerk and faced high school taxes.
It wasn’t a ‘spur-of-the-moment” act, coming in a moment of thoughtless passion. There was evidence that he planned the attack for over a year - telling neighbors who asked about the sound of explosives being detonated on his farm that he was blowing up tree stumps.
It was the incredibly evil act of an insane man.
Gun control laws would not have stopped it. For that matter, bomb-control laws would probably not have stopped Kehoe.
It was the unspeakably horrible, evil act of a man who had become insane. Of a man whose heart was so cold that he could no longer sense any difference between right and wrong.
Against such people, no law passed by Congress will ever prevail. Only the final judgment will.
I’ve read that mass killings in America actually peaked around that time. Oddly enough, progressivism was at a peak around that same time as well.
Today we have multiple agenda driven 24 hour news outlets to tell us what to be outraged about.
I was wondering if Andrew Kehoe and Chevy Kehoe were related.
I found this for those who dare to ask and watch all those FBI files and such nonsense???
Are Chevie Kehoe and Andrew Kehoe Related?
I wonder if Chevie Kehoe the white supremacist and Andrew Kehoe the mass murderer are related in some way.
There is no definitive proof that Chevie Kehoe and Andrew Kehoe are related, though the ancestors of both men arrived in America from Ireland at about the same time and also settled in Michigan. We can neither confirm nor deny a familial relationship between the two men at this point.
Chevie O’Brien Kehoe, born 19 Jan 1973 in Orange Park, Florida, is the son of Kirby Keith Kehoe and Gloria Collins. Kirby’s father was Doyle Robert Kehoe. Doyle’s father (probably) was Maurice Kehoe. Maurice’s father was John F. Kehoe. John’s parents were Patrick Kehoe (born c. 1826 in Ireland) and Ellen C. Stewart.
Andrew Philip Kehoe, born 01 Feb 1872 in Tecumseh, Michigan and died 18 May 1927 in Bath, Michigan, was the son of Philip Kehoe and Mary McGovern. Philip was born 04 May 1833 in Ireland, son of Patrick Kehoe and Anna Marah*. *I cannot say will all certainty that Marah was Anna’s maiden name.
It does not appear as though Patrick Kehoe (ancestor of Chevie) and Philip Kehoe (father of Andrew) were siblings, but it is possible that they may have been cousins. Again, there really is no way to know without a lot more research into both families.

Its also important to note that Kehoe belonged at the school and was able to rig the bombs without being questioned.
I guess that started the ‘No Bombs Allowed Here’ movement.
Is ‘assault’ dynomite different from industrial dynomite? ... I remember my grandfather using his ‘fire crackers’ to reduce rocks ...
Ditto in Houston in 1959. It happened at my elementary school, Edgar Allen Poe. A crazy man brought dynamite in a briefcase filled with razor blades and broken glass to playground where a 2nd grade class was gathered. Killed several and maimed many. You can read the article on Wikipedia. Google Poe elementary bombing.
Although this happened before I was a student there, I remember two boys in my mom’s 6th grade class who were survivors and had prosthetic legs.
My take away from this — we’ve always had crazy and always will...and crazy will always find a way....
Wow. Went to Poe for 4th grade(1978) and never knew this.
But you are correct that he did not shoot anyone, and no children were killed by the second detonation. The first detonation was set off by a timing device, and half the charge failed to explode.
He had already killed his wife (by bludgeoning her to death) and all his farm animals, then blown up and burned down every building on his farm.
Evil incarnate, and the absence of a firearm would have made no difference whatsoever.
Doesn’t count today. Banning explosives that are already banned doesn’t move the agenda, even when the Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground found explosives useful for their cause. But that was then, and he has the ear of the President now. What a country!
Speaking of banning explosives:
During the Columbine massacre, in which 15 people were murdered and 21 injured, a total of four firearms were involved. The murderers also employed four knives and 99 explosive devices.
Of the firearms, only one qualified for banning under the 1984 federal law. One firearm was a doubled barreled shotgun with a shortened barrel. It has long been a federal felony to saw down the barrel of a shotgun and it was also a felony to possess such an altered weapon.
Every single explosive device was a federal and state felony to assemble, possess and use, and to use in the commission of a crime.
If the memory of Columbine is ever brought up today, the failure of the law to stop the use of explosives in a school massacre is never mentioned. It is never mentioned because it is a fact that gets in the way of a Gollum-like fixation on the Precious, the banning certain types of firearms and then eventually all firearms.
So was Anarchism.
As a result, there was no epidemic of parental paranoia and no demands that we "do something" no matter how stupid that something might be. (And I think that posting armed guards in every school is every bit as stupid and useless as banning 30 round mags)
Isn't Dymamite illegal to own??
Along the same line, I believe the largest mass murder (not in an abortion clinic) in U.S. History is still the Happy Land Social Club arson in 1990. 87 were killed.
Assault weapons used? Plastic container of gasoline and 2 matches.

I didn't know your Grandad came from Austria-Hungary.
I shall try and find my Mother and Fathers citizenship papers Circa 1972.
I am certain though it was not like that however.
I like how your grandfather's assumes that A. He a Subject and NOT a citizen of a Republic.
B. Has anno domini for the year.
C. Is not an Anarchist (of course)
D. Nor are you a polygamist.
And Finally has so Help me G-d.
Oh and it is NOT written in any other language than English. Despite the fact that your Grandfather would have grown up speaking German and/or Hungarian.
My how things have changed in 101 years.
