MILLER: National ‘assault weapon’ ban coming Thursday
The Washington Times ^ | 22 January, 2013 | Emily Miller

Posted on 01/23/2013 4:21:18 AM PST by marktwain

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s office confirmed that she will be introducing in the Senate Thursday a new version of the so-called assault weapon ban. A spokesman said the full text will be released at a press conference on Thursday.

The California Democrat intends to expand on the ban that expired in 2004, by including handguns and shotguns, in addition to rifles. She would decrease from two to one the number of cosmetic features on a gun to have it be considered an “assault weapon.” This means that if a gun has just one item like a pistol grip or bayonet lug, then it is illegal. Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law the same ban in New York last week.

Furthermore, instead of grandfathering in current firearms, she would create a national gun registry for the government to track lawful gun owners. Magazines would again be limited to 10 rounds.

The Clinton-era bill was not renewed by Congress after the Federal Bureau of Investigation and law enforcement agencies reported that it was ineffective in reducing crime.

President Obama said that a top priority is to get “an assault weapons ban that is meaningful” passed this year.

A summary of Mrs. Feinstein’s legislation is below.

Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of: 120 specifically-named firearms; certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one or more military characteristics; and semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds.

Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by: Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test; eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test; and banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans.

And some where in the printing of the text the “one charateristic” will, accidentally of course, turn into “zero characteristics” making all firearms illegal.

As Biden promised us in Fall 2008, ‘No-no-no, Obama is not coming to take your guns. That's the LAST thing on his mind”

Dont remember O talking about doing this last year.

Kalashnikovs haven’t gone out of sight nearly as much as ARs. And they are much uglier, too. My AK with all the fixins’ (folder, pistol grip, drum mag, muzzle brake, attached bayonet AND imported) would give DiFi the royal heebie-jeebies. After all, she gave me the idea to buy one when I saw her brandishing it in front of the cameras back in ‘94.

They will have to pass it to see what’s in it!

Thankfully I’m getting old enough that I won’t have to go through fights for our liberty much longer. I’m getting tired of people saying “it’s the guns, not the individual”. I can remember prior to 1968 when you could purchase surplus WWII firearms from a firm in Alexandria, VA (Ye Old Hunter’s Lodge or something like that) with no background check and have the item mailed to you. So prior to 1968 we had nothing to protect us, and where was our crime rate? I venture to say it was much better than now. But what happened to make crime increase? Maybe it was the fact that we started by killing our babies, Hollywood glamorized murder, or that poverty and drugs created pockets of high crime areas within our major cities? But no, it’s not that....it’s the guns! So instead of making individuals responsible or attempting to solve the real issues, we blame the inert object. I guess that fits in nicely with the “we’re all special” mentality that’s creating a nation of disappointed and emotionally immature youth that would rather rob their elders than work (with apologies to today’s responsible youth that stand on principle).

States can choose not to enforce this. Just like CA refuses to enforce federal Pot laws, right?

Maybe Feinstein just needs to get laid. She is one of the crabbiest politicians I think I’ve ever seen. But I don’t see that happening anytime soon unless you get another species involved.../s

"I doubt it even gets out of committee in the Senate."

The following sentiments were GOSPEL on FR just a few short months ago:

"There is no way SCOTUS will uphold an individual mandate..."

"There is no way Romney loses Ohio..."

"There is no way Obama gets re-elected with Unemployment over 7%..."

I sense a pattern here...

"They have been illegal in this country since 1934."

"...the senate can propose an “assault weapons” ban, but not a budget as they’re required to do by law."

Good Point! Pick up your phones and hammer your congressmen with this. Also call John Boehner, give him your support on this budget mess...if he knows We The People are demanding rules apply to our elected also, he will show strength. DON'T let Obama continue to tear the GOP apart and trample our Constitution.....Fax Boehner a short note or call him today.

Is anyone here under the illusion that the Senate will not pass this AND the House will follow suit AND the SCOTUS will uphold it AND most states will enforce it? I’m not; we are in different times, as evidenced by the majority crowning a new emperor who thinks he’s a god.

Four years ago, there might have been an almost bloodless separation of states. Today, there is zero chance of that. It will be long; it will be bloody; and it will happen. Better that than living as slaves to the regime.

> with apologies to today’s responsible youth that stand on principle

A few weeks ago I went to a class on The Constitution that was hosted by The Tea Party. There were probably 10 teenagers there and one maybe just a little older who knew The Constitution inside and out and had reportedly spoken at some other meetings. He was respectful, humble, and very intelligent and you tell he had a reverence for God. It was very obvious he is opposed to the current administration’s agenda to change and defile The Constiution and that he will enter into politics here in the next few years.

Youth like THAT give me hope. It doesn’t seem like there are many out there like that but I have run into more than I expected lately and it was obvious it was the parent’s influence on their lives that made the difference. So do not despair, there is hope.

This is not news to most of you....you know how the deck is stacked

....but Friday my husband and I were in Walmart and checked the gun/ammo aisle...

...except for a few stray bullets, the shelves were completely empty.

I asked the employee if they were getting more....

...he said to be there in line the next morning at 7AM.....they would have a new shipment...

..and by the afternoon they would be completely empty again.

I’m beginning to think they are being staged. I mean, what are the odds? Unless the stupid liberal college kids are trying o assist him on his gun control agenda. Would I have considered it a possibility 5 years ago? No. Today? Yes. It’s obvious the liberals are using the Alinsky playbook and and that the end justifies the means to them. At any cost. Oh what’s a few lives when you need to get a ill passed that will be or the good of all? Yeah, that’s the mentality in the WH we’re currently dealing with.
