California is losing its children.
After decades of simultaneously worrying about and cashing in on its ever-growing population, the Golden State now awaits a new challenge: too few children and, eventually, too few skilled and able-bodied workers.
"Kids are no longer overrunning us. Now they're in short supply," said Dowell Myers, a demographer at the University of Southern California. "It changes the priorities for the state."
The number of California babies born each year began dropping steadily in 2007, according to state public health records, but the birthrate began slowing years before.
From 2002 to 2011, there was a statewide decrease in births of 5 percent.
Around Southern California, the trend can be seen across many counties. Los Angeles County saw a nearly 14 percent decrease in births in the same time period.
Within the county, similar declines were seen in San Gabriel Valley and in the South Bay.
Long Beach saw the number of live births decline quickly - by 7 percent - in just three years.
In the San Fernando Valley, from 2005 to 2010 the birthrate dropped from 13.5 births per 1,000 residents to 12.2 births per 1,000.

Yeah, there are lots of areas of Frisco where people can raise their children--like Miraloma Elementary School!!!
I though Frisco was supposed to be a wonderful place to raise children.
Wow Fiji, This was posted back in January! What happened? Did your drug supply run dry? Are you suffering from withdrawal? I understand that ISIS is looking for IED truck drivers, may be you should apply! I guess there’s no “statute of limitations” on outrageous posts!
Well, it’s only about a month until the Folsom Street Fair takes place in your hometown. Bet you can’t wait. Great place to take the kids.
FYI, I don’t go into SF. It may be my birthplace, but it’s never been my home. And I don’t like what’s happened there, but there are still some decent people who live there and do try to raise their children properly. Mostly the Asians. And despite everything, real estate there is booming and places that used to be $hit hole neighborhoods have been reborn for the Silicon Valley people who have astronomical incomes. I know it probably comes as a complete shock to you, but the “rump rangers” don’t live everywhere.
lol this thread rose from the dead
Rump rangers don't have kids, so they have a lot of disposable cash.
“Rump rangers don’t have kids, so they have a lot of disposable cash.”
You’re a disgraceful person!!!
Why? Was my comment too homophobic?

Absolutely! While it’s true we have some groups in society today that as groups are problematic, we should respect everyone as individuals. Black thugs who want to kill me, are on my list, but not my black friends who would give me the shirts off their backs should the need arise. And so too are the “gay rights activists” who think they are a special class deserving of ‘extra freedoms and rights,” but not my 75 year old high school classmate who has been with his partner for many years and is now disposed to care for him in his infirmity.
You cheapen us all with your rhetoric, and it gives me pause as to some things I post reacting to situations that I find disgusting. Think about it!
FR is a conservative site, and homosexual practice is, by and large, frowned on among conservatives. If my rather tame comments on homosexual practice make me a disgraceful person in your view, then I’m most certainly not alone.

Maybe so. But in post #66, a certain vette6387 wrote, "I know it probably comes as a complete shock to you, but the rump rangers dont live everywhere." Since vette6387 used the same descriptor, doesn't that make him/her a disgraceful person?

I thought I’d just use a term you’d understand.
One of my sons attends a school that is 98.5% Hispanic. Diversity? Um. Not so much.
I visited San Francisco as a kid and loved it, but that was back in the days when it had a Republican mayor--in other words, a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. The last time I was there, a couple years ago, it reminded me of NYC in the late 1970's or Los Angeles in the early 1990's, with all of the bums and "street people" slouching on the street corners, side walks and median strips.
It is said that the negative aspects of California are offset by its wonderful climate. However, Lebanon and the west coast of Syria have a similar climate, as does Algeria. Anyone want to go there and live?
I think you are right. If a CA relative of my husband tells me one more time
” the weather is here wish you were beautiful” .......
Texas has some beautiful weather too a..hole and I am glad you aren't here!
FR may be a conservative site but there are many libertarians here like me. I don’t really care what “rump rangers” do as long as it’s done in the privacy of their homes.
I don't, either. But I certainly object to their efforts to force their lifestyle on the rest of us--for example, suing bakers, photographers, etc. who don't want to participate in "gay culture."
