On Monday, President Obama will preside over the grand reopening of his administration. It would be altogether fitting if he stepped to the microphone, looked down the mall, and let out a sigh... There's no indication that the president's clashes with House Republicans will end soon...
The challenge for President Obamas speech is the challenge of his second term: how to be great when the environment stinks...The president who came into office speaking in lofty terms about bipartisanship and cooperation can only cement his legacy if he destroys the GOP...
How should the president proceed then, if he wants to be bold? ...
Obamas only remaining option is to pulverize. Whether he succeeds in passing legislation or not, given his ambitions, his goal should be to delegitimize his opponents...
Obama has an opportunity to hasten the demise of the old order by increasing the political cost of having the GOP coalition defined by Second Amendment absolutists, climate science deniers, supporters of self-deportation and the pure no-tax wing...
The president already appears to be headed down this path. He has admitted hes not going to spend much time improving his schmoozing skills; he's going to get outside of Washington to ratchet up public pressure on Republicans...
Presidents dont usually sow discord in their inaugural addresses, though the challenge of writing a speech in which the call for compromise doesnt evaporate faster than the air out of the presidents mouth might inspire him to shake things up a bit. If it doesnt, and he tries to conjure our better angels or summon past American heroes, then it will be among the most forgettable speeches, because the next day hes going to return to pitched political battle. He has no time to waste.

He’d go for the ‘nads, but the GOP doesn’t have any.
He’s using two Bibles Monday: Lincoln’s and MLK’s (two people who were, incidentally, assassinated. He doesn’t just taunt Republicans, he taunts fate). For the real ceremony, the private one on Sunday, who knows. Probably nothing at all as he did for the real ceremony four years ago. There is a picture of that, and there is no Bible or anything, his hand just hangs.
My new Dem Congresscritter didn’t use a Bible either, she used a copy of the Constitution, which she will soon violate repeatedly and shamelessly.
“The challenge for President Obamas speech is the challenge of his second term: how to be great when the environment stinks...”
Yes, it is STILL all about Obama. The hell with the rest of the country.
It is not an error but an earnestly desired outcome. I suspect the Regime and its supporters are pretty certain of the various armed services and law enforcement organizations and would love an “insurrection” as an excuse to crack down on the “bitter clinger” segments of the population.
Not excusing the limpies in GOP, but “one” problem is that the GOP has been trying to counter the dems as “political opponents”, while the dem/libs have for years been assaulting any and every conservative as a fight to the death enemy, not just someone they disagree with politically.
When the GOP or any conservative group realizes this and uses fire against fire, we will begin to recover and regain the trust of the American people. Well, probably not holders people.
That is one hell of a sentence. Kudos.

Imagine believing "all eyes" will be on the monster, hanging on every lisp whistle and pedantic phrase. The very idea gives me a piss-shiver. I may be watching Turner Classic Movies, but I will not be watching, much less thinking, about the inaugural gaiety, tomorrow.
The Left always falls short on the consequences of crushing political enemies. It also escapes their notice that MOST people will not be watching, tomorrow.
And he isnt going to gain seats in 2014...”
Just like “no president with an economic record as bad as his” could EVER be re-elected?
How’d that work out for ya?
File it next to the guy telling Boehner that he "must" purge the House Republicans who voted against him.
We'll see, won't we . . .
Just like no president with an economic record as bad as his could EVER be re-elected? I for one never made that claim. But, if you're correct and the Dems take the House next year, I guess we can all sit around and whimper.
