We've been thinking Texas too, but I'm afraid of the immigrants over-running the place in the next 10 years. What's left?

It seems that on FR Texas is the number-one recommended destination. But what's wrong with the Deep South? Those states are just as conservative and do not have the immigration problem that Texas does.

Also, IMHO they have better weather.

Also, IMHO they [Southern states] have better weather. I don't know about that. I've lived in Texas for most of my life and love the weather over here.

But I lived in Alabama for five years -- and I've got to tell you, I've also lived in Michigan and seen 30 below, yet I've never been so cold as I've been in Alabama at 40 degrees.

Working on an orchard floor in the damp chill was, literally, bone-chilling -- even with quilted overalls. It would take at least an hour back home, in front of the fireplace, to "warm your innards".

And a 95 degree day at 80% humidity might be even worse.

Give me "high and dry" any day...
