A New York suburban newspaper that came under criticism for publishing the names and addresses of pistol-permit holders has decided to remove the map from its web site, according to a spokesman for the publication.
Just before Christmas, in the wake of the Newtown school massacre, the Journal News published a map of the names and addresses of tens of thousands of pistol-permit holders in Rockland and Westchester counties outside of New York City.
The newspaper immediately faced a barrage of criticism from gun-owner advocates and some local public-safety officials. Conservative bloggers retaliated against the paper, posting the names and home addresses of Journal News editors and executives.

She's a liberal. I think they eschew feminine type things like beauty.
Maybe she has special talent.
Maybe we can modernize that to Gorilla glue and packing peanuts. They're easier to get at the local Ace or Office Depot.
It's a bad economy, no doubt there are lawyers in need of work and a pay check, and this looks like some low hanging fruit.
It may be too early, but the potential schadenfreude from this would be quite savory.
Well as the old song goes
“If the purse is fat, that’s where it’s at, why waste time lookin’ at the waistline”
Hope they go out of business now from a massive number of lawsuits and lack of readers.
One of our core missions as a newspaper is to empower our readers with as much information as possible on the critical issues they face, and guns have certainly become a top issue since the massacre in nearby Newtown, Conn.
One of my core missions as a liberty-loving patriot is to empower my friends and family with as much firepower as possible.
Looks like Leon Panetta in drag.
Yeh now that a couple of those gun owners have been robbed the paper is going to get the carpola sued out of them.
Never heard of that but it sounds like it just may fit.

Spare me the journalist hero bullshit Ms. Hasson, you attempted to make pariahs out of and put in danger along with their families, a section of the community you serve.
You are a disgrace.
Oh no...that’s not going to be enough. No way exists for you to right the wrong you have done to law-abiding citizens by endangering their families and their possessions without cause.
Thanks to these idiots making a “political statement”, there are now two stolen handguns out there with a couple of low-lifes.
All in a days work for these irresponsible demagogues at the Journal News.
There needs to be a HUGE class-action lawsuit against this paper and owners. Drive them out of business thru bankruptcy via lawsuit and boycott. That’s how the left fights and we should turn it right around on them and give them a real good taste of their own crap. Then go after this ugly hag personally via lawsuit as well. Watch em twist and squirm as they die a slow agonizing financial death.
Jeez, you can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube. I know of at least 2 cases of burglaries at the residences she and her paper revealed. I Hope they sue Gannet into bankruptcy, at the VERY least.
For all the people who claim to think even more weapons registration and/or background checks of law abiding citizens serves any purpose at all, think again.
They don’t give a damn that they “empowered” their readers with false info, or outdated info, or misleading info. I hope those readers who are victimized or traumatized or in ANY way negatively affected by this find a pit bull attorney to sue the asses off every coward journalist at that paper.
I just want to know when they are going to let their armed guards go? Hypocrites!
