Join the National Day of Service
On Saturday, January 19, President Obama and the First Lady, the Vice President and Dr. Biden will take part in an event that's become a tradition -- a National Day of Service on the weekend of Martin Luther King Day to celebrate Dr. King's legacy.
No matter where you are in America, you have an opportunity to join this effort and serve your community. The Presidential Inaugural Committee has helped to organize events all over the country.
Visit their site to find a service opportunity near you.
This National Day of Service is about strengthening the communities that we call home, and that's a goal that we can all share.
So on Saturday, take part in a food drive or help paint a school. Clean up a park or help make care packages for veterans.
There are many ways that all of us can make a difference in our communities and our neighborhoods. Find one here:

The President is looking forward to seeing you out there!
P.S. -- The commitment to public service doesn't end this weekend. Find opportunities to help in your community year round, at Serve.gov.

The reporter got it wrong. It was supposed to be a Day of Signing up for Services. Pass the immigration help packets around.

The guy isn’t qualified to serve me coffee. He’s somebodies idea of a bad joke. Let him do a day of honest service and then get back to me....

Sounds good. I will be doing volunteer work at the National Coalition to Combat Malignant Narcissism.

Why doesn’t he mandate that those on unemployment and welfare work for “free”, instead of demanding time in addition to money from those who work?

I am so tired of this crap! The free market has helped more people than all the charities combined. People pursuing their own interest while working, creating, and building things are the ones who have made the US the envy of the world. If people want to go out and clean up a park, fine, but don’t think you’re saving the world doing it.

Humph. It'll just be another average day for me and mine. Obomas communist party day has nothing to do with us. We're Constitutionalists.
Too bad his crap will get in the way of real news, though.

We have a "national day of service" for 9/11 (instead of a national day of rage as I would like). We have one for Martin Luther King day. Now were are supposed to have an additional one for Obama's inauguration? Gag!
I feel like I'm getting serviced like a mare for Obama's inauguration day.

If people want to go out and clean up a park, fine, but dont think youre saving the world doing it. Considering that the last Obama inauguration turned the National Mall into a 150 acre trash dump, maybe we can save the volunteer park cleaning for the 22nd.

Dear Mr. President,
How about a “National Get the Hell Out of My Life” Day?
Sincerely,

Doctor? Since when?

Good idea. It’a a good day for gun owners and ranges to sponsor a “Learn to Shoot Day”.
