Schadenfreude's a bitch, isn't it?
When Jacque Chirac was president, the French did everything they could to torpdeo our efforts in Iraq. They refused to send troops to fight Saddam and continuously opposed us in NATO councils.
Now, suddenly - France needs help in Mali. And no one is lifting a finger to help them.
"The French aren't alone, they are the trailblazers," he said, after European ministers approved a contingent of more than 200 military trainers for Mali. He added: "It is completely possible - but this is up to them - that others or the same European countries decide to offer not just logistical support, but also to make soldiers available."
The bravado of the sudden intervention last Friday, popular with many in France, appears to be turning to a hint of bitterness that allies have not backed them more, with high-profile figures and ordinary citizens complaining the Mali mission is "France alone."
That sentiment directed at allies is being expressed in France by people commenting on Twitter and by Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, who told Britain's Channel 4 France is waiting for British help. "I beg you, don't leave the French alone," he said.
France, which now has 1,400 troops in Mali and is expecting to send 1,100 more, has already asked allies, including Canada, to extend and expand their military support.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Thursday the United States will provide indirect assistance such as intelligence and transport help for France, and pre-deployment training and airlift for African troops.
Other African countries are willing to send troops but NATO has been reluctant to get involved in what might be another long term commitment. Sothe French will go it alone and hope that other African nations can bail them out of their ill-considered intervention.

Maybe now the French will kick them out of their country.
We weren’t fighting Islamists in Iraq. In fact,we were fighting secular elements we should have been boosting in the middle east.

France stabbed us in the back after 9-11. They are still dead to me.
so now the frogs care about what we call our potatos?
What now they even need help to surrender?
WTF!
Following the French into war would be like following Ray Charles driving on an LA freeway.
Non?
Dirt Apples?
We should give 'em an object lesson in French support and cut 'em off everything but humanitarian aid.
If you are paid by the government, then you should serve the government. All Food Stampers......There is the enemy......CHARGE!!!
Will we see the Mali-ans (or whatever they’re called) marching up the Champs d’Elysee?
Send the French soldiers in Mali a cargo plane load of american cheese. They like cheese you know. LOL
Dien Bien Phu mes amis les afriques? Ce soir, on chante Mali.
We used to call them “Cheese-eating surrender monkeys”, as I recall.
It is time for a Crusades?
Just sayin.
Back in the 50s and 60s France had a rather fearsome reputation among intelligence gathering folks. That is, one absolutely did NOT want to be interrogated by the French. No idea if such is still true today, but the Foreign Legion has a history as well.
French Marines and FFL have already rolled up several towns. Methinks most resistance will be overcome in S. Mali. It is the "Northern Redoubt" that I fear will cause many French and their African allies to become casualties.
Al Queada has supposedly hauled in large pieces of construction equipment from Libya and built extensive defensive positions. Methinks the noise level at Knob Noster will soon intensify...
Italian and British feelings about the French are interesting from a curious and less affected American point of view.
It’s hard to engage the enemy when you’re running in the same direction they are.
What happened? When did we do that?
