Around 600 cats stuffed into wooden crates and destined for dinner plates in southern China were rescued by animal protection volunteers after a truck crash, a volunteer said on Thursday.

Volunteers hauled the felines from the lorry on Monday after the accident in the central city of Changsha, said Xu Chenxin of the Changsha Small Animal Protection Association. About another 100 were already dead.

HOW they prepare the cats/dogs for eating is the most horrible thing in the world. These people are barbaric and anyone with any common sense would not even think about doing what they do. How can people be soooo cold hearted and cruel...

Are pigs much less intelligent than cats?

I believe it's been demonstrated that pigs are smarter than most domestic pets with the possible exception of parrots.

That is why I will not eat at any Chinese or Korean or Japanese restaurants..They do the same here, you just don't know it..Dogs and cats are on the menus ever day at these restaurants..I can't even walk into one of these places I get sick to my stomach..

You can relax. Nobody's feeding you cat or dog without charging you a price higher than a filet mignon at Morton's. Just toting up the labor involved in slaughtering and dressing the animals jacks the cost up way above the grocery store chuck steak typically used in these restaurants, never mind the chicken thighs. They also get a premium for these animals from members of those ethnic groups - who pay a premium for them back home. You might see cat or dog meat as an inferior substitute, but they see it as a superior meat.

I hate to break it to you, but most of the animal products you eat here in the states were not raised in the kindest ways possible.
