Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick on Monday laid tax and fee increases and new taxes on the table, including more than doubling the state's gas tax.
Raising the gas tax from 21 cents to 51 cents per gallon
Raising the sales tax from 6.25 percent to 7.75 percent
Raising the state income tax to 5.66 percent from 5.25 percent
Levying a vehicle miles-traveled tax at 2.4 cents per mile
New, emissions-based vehicle title and registration fees could raise $175 million
A payroll tax on workers in regions with transit service could raise $140 million to $207 million

A-huh... and how will they determine this?
Obama’s Mini-Me has promised government unions an additional $13B a year. And he’s going to get it rubber-stamped at Bacon Hill.
Charging a per gallon gas tax AND a per mile traveled tax is double taxation——pure & simple
Good. Maybe this will wake up the morons that keep voting for the rats in MA. If not, then enjoy the new utopia for the lazy and minorities.
Good it serves them right.....
I expect more MA residents will license out of State, but I am sure DMV inspectors will be sitting in the turn-abouts checking up on this... Oh believe me they do...
I remember when Governor Celeste of Ohio was irritated because there was a flood of companies leaving OH for the South. So he and his expert advisers put together and passed an “exit tax” where any company closing its doors had to pay the state the equivalent of 6 months worth of payroll. The idiot legislature bought and passed the tax. A few months later, Celeste was scratching his head trying to figure out why new business formations in Ohio were zero. My guess is that the governor of MA is going to learn a similar lesson.
I'd guess that it would be levied year-to-year from recording the mileage at the state inspection, or some such.
GPS is the bureaucracy's dream, but I don't see that getting through. Yet.
The treatment of the federal taxation on dividends pretty much tells you how taxing agencies feel about double taxation. Given their way, they’d do it on everything.
By the odometer reading and/or the car’s computer.
It won’t pass. The legislature is already balking.
Those projects are boondoggles of the highest order and how many times do they really need to repave the highways in this state yet again?
I can’t see any of this passing except a sales tax or income tax hike.
Elections have consequences, folks. Vote with your feet, if necessary.
I.E. do you work or have a State that promotes and environment of Productivity.
MA, NY, IL, CT, CA, are on the short end of the stick.
Screaming come on in and build it here are: MI, Indiana, WI, and so many others in the South and Texas.
They come from from the suckie states to work, but just leave you utopian socialism ideals at home or don't come, Stay in you sucksville if you want to change where you are going.
This is GREAT NEWS for New Hampshire!
Keep it up Massachusetts, show us the money!!!
Second thoughts,....they move here to get away from their hell hole and then try to make N.H. just like Mass.
Ohh mandatory annual odometer inspections that the vehicle owner must pay for. Mandatory gps tracking units similar to those that insurance companies are offering to wimps for free, but that the driver must pay for that upload your driving data to the state in real time (Hmm could autogenerate speeding tickets too.) Lots of ways if the burden falls 100% upon the public like it ALWAYS does with anything from the government.
The people in MA DESERVE this; those liberal massholes deserve to get all the government that they pay for.
The people of MA (currently held beneath contempt by those fortunate enough to NOT live there) can redeem themselves by eschewing their limp-wristnedess and undergoing a genuine revolt.
If they hang Deval Limpoid, I’ll pay to attend.
NO DON'T DO THAT!!! I've seen decades of liberals moving from yankee states that they ruined by electing hard left liberals who thought the answer to everything was more government. As a result the local economies splashed into the toilet, crime skyrocketed (nothing like a bunch of unemployed entitlement youts sitting around with nothing to do but wait for their next check from you via the government to cause trouble), freedom plummeted more regulations for everything all the time, etc.
So having ruined places like NJ, NY, MD, MA, CT, etc. they move to TX, FL and GA and start doing the same things that ruined their previous abode. They bring their arrogant liberal ideas with them. They sh!t where they ate, but they're too stupid to realize that the nasty smell that made them move is them.
