I commiserate. However, you’re likely to raise the ire of a few “hair up their butt” purists here. They think that the “boating accident” quip is juvenile and “hurts their butts”.....

Regardless of whose butt gets hurt, human history would indicate that in a totalitarian society, responses along the lines of "I lost them in a boating accident" are the kind of things that are said shortly before confinement, torture and/or an execution.
