20-year-old Tom Billodeaux pulled gun during screening of Oscar-nominated movie, but witnesses said he never threatened to shoot anyone. Cops arrived and stopped the movie as others ducked and fled.
Moviegoers at a San Diego theater ducked for cover as officers stormed in during a film screening and shot and critically wounded a gunman hiding in their midst.
No one else was hurt in the shooting Saturday inside Reading Cinemas Carmel Mountain in northern San Diego, officer David Stafford said.
The gunman, identified as 20-year-old Tom Billodeaux of Escondido, was taken to a hospital after being shot in the arm and chest, police said.
Billodeaux became the target of an intense police search after witnesses reported seeing him get into a fight with his girlfriend across the street from a shopping plaza where the Cineplex is located, Lt. Ernie Herbert said. Witnesses tried to intervene, but he threatened them with a gun and ran to the shopping plaza.
The owner of a business next to the Cineplex said police shut down the shopping centers parking lot and stopped every car to look for the man. Officers with dogs checked each store, while a police helicopter hovered above. There were 20 police cars blocking the entrance, then the fire truck and the ambulance rushed in, Steve Krongard, the owner of the Nickel City arcade, said.
Then we saw seven cops with what looked like rifles, then paramedics went into the theater.
Herbert said police turned their attention to the Cineplex after learning that an armed man had ducked into the Cineplex.
Capt. Terry McManus said that police searched theater by theater and evacuated moviegoers until two officers spotted him in a theater with about 15 others.
The theaters manager told Krongard the shooting occurred during a screening of Les Miserables.

Cmon Tom...
Les Mis wasnt that bad...
The movie drags a little at times, but not enough to make me suicidal.
As if I needed yet another reason to avoid movie theaters. I’ll stay home, stay safe and screw Hollywood.
“Is that what is in store for us under the Marxists? I fear it. Look at Detroit.”

That or worse, I would imagine.
During the French Revolution the revolutionists went into Catholic convents and removed nuns for future execution, and also removed the bodies of deceased nuns from their coffins and displayed them on the streets.
Karl Marx used the example of the French Revolution to draw up his ideas for a socialist revolution culminating in his Worker's Paradise. Yeah, he decided that the French didn't do it right.
I don't care if the music is great or if the acting is superb, I have no desire to see human tragedy misidentified and glorified.
The story of Les Mis. was not set during the French revolution.
Sorry, but the revolution was well over by the period covered by Le Miserables. It’s not about that. Its only commentary really on government at all is about a justice system that is unfair, brutally punishing minor offenses... and a particular policeman that has no sense of proportion... Making the chase of a petty criminal all but his life’s work.
