How Many Bullets Are Enough?
American Thinker ^ | 01/15/2013 | William Sullivan

Gun control advocates, in their infinite wisdom, seem to think they have the definitive answer to this question. The answer is "less than ten."

Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York is seeking extensive gun control legislation to "tighten the assault weapons ban" and "ban all large-capacity gun clips." To these ends, he addressed the gun "extremists" by quipping, "It's simple -- no one hunts with an assault rifle. No one needs ten bullets to kill a deer."

The first time I remember being introduced to this feeble (yet somehow, incredibly persistent) argument for gun control was while watching an Eddie Murphy movie called The Distinguished Gentleman as a kid. In the film, Eddie Murphy's character is a con artist who scams his way into a vacant seat in Congress. He initially chums up to the House chairman of the energy committee, who is your stereotypical greedy, right-wing, oil-sucking politician that Hollywood loves to portray. He's anti-gay, anti-environment, anti-cancer prevention, and he also happens to be in bed with (you guessed it!) the pro-gun lobby. So he and Eddie Murphy go duck hunting with military-grade rifles to promote such weapons' recreational use.

The whole thing is purposefully absurd, with Eddie Murphy puzzling over these gun nuts firing hundreds of rounds in the air only to have one duck fall from the sky, which Eddie Murphy suggests "must've had a heart attack."

The implication is simple. Like Cuomo, the filmmakers expect the people watching to assume that the gun control debate centers on whether or not weapons capable of delivering large numbers of rounds have a legitimate recreational use. And if they do not have such utility, there is simply no need for Americans to have access to them.

In Massachusetts, there is a limit on how much you can stockpile. 10,000 rounds overall. That’s it. Bookoo bad juju if you go over by any appreciable amount. Or rather, get caught with more than that.

>>> How Many Bullets Are Enough?

Politicians don’t get to decide.

That’s another liberty (going to be) taken away from citizens.

"Where the hell is Boehner? Ryan? McConnell? Cantor? ANYBODY? It appears we are on our own here."

Fox Business had a banner stating that House Republicans have canceled their weekly meeting. No other information, but I wonder if Boehner is shutting down a forum that might be used to object to whatever he is doing about the debt ceiling, gun control or anything else?

The answer is “however many it takes to stop an assailant.”

I think Cuomo has been eating too much of his girlfriend’s so-called cooking (70% store-bought, 30% homemade and 100% inedible!) and it’s rotting his brain...

“These are for the IRS, the Post Office, DHS, et al.....’

Yep, the national weather forecasters and accountants are coming to get us. They’ll be shooting cop-killer bullets out their arses and hitting targets at 500 yards.

If the state of New York says 7 is enough, I can only guess that means they have 8 or more on a SWAT team.

re: i have a better question, how many gun laws are enough?

The Only gun law we need is already in the Constitution, but ask a liberal that question and the answer would be, ‘as many as needed to get all the EVIL guns out of the publics hands’

Given the purpose of the Second Amendment, which is neither for hunting nor for punching holes in targets, the question “how many bullets are enough” is one to be answered by each individual American. Those who are good shots and expect to face a threat consisting of multiple criminals probably need at least three rounds time the number of criminals they might encounter simultaneously. Those who are less skilled probably need a higher multiplier. Those who might face a more organized threat potentially need even more rounds. Given the weight of a high-capacity magazine, particularly for large calibers, we have an incentive to make a thoughtful decision. It is, however, my decision, and any petty tyrant who attempts to make that decision for me will certainly nudge the number I settle on upward.

I submit this question for consideration, “How many enemies of the US, foreign or domestic, criminals and/or tyrants may I shoot before I must reload and how rapidly can I shoot them?”

Answer: As many rounds as it takes untill victory is won.

“Is this sick and twisted irony not enough to convince Americans to abandon this foolishness and give up this mad quest to let the government disarm the public?”

That’s where he goes wrong. It doesn’t matter what American’s want, just what the Kenyan wants.

The amount of ammo you need is determined after the gunfight.

"...No one needs ten bullets to kill a deer."

Deer are not the ones who will be coming around to confiscate our weapons in a national "emergency" and to transport the resistance to their FEMA camps.
