No, you are not a felon or a 2nd Class citizen if you call a "magazine" a "clip." It IS something you might as well get figured out, though, and correct if you want to have respect within the shooting community. It's just a fact, many will judge you as someone who doesn't know much about firearms if you call them "clips." I might still love you, but many won't. :-)

maybe he’ll do a tutorial on cartridges vs bullets soon
Mag= Rolling Stone
Clip= haircut
Am I confused?
Snoot ;o)
I have about 70+ guns that take clips.
I use the term all the time.
As for magazines, most every gun has one.
For me its a tire vs. wheel or engine vs. motor issue. The misuse rarely causes confusion.
I don’t look for reasons to play “smarter than you” with gun owners, especially new gun owners that that are the most likely to make the mistake. If they own one gun and call the mag a clip, who gives a rat’s rump? I explain the difference in passing and let it go at that, not every gun owner desires to be an expert in the field.
I just discovered him today - very knowledgable and wow can he shoot!
Not trying to hi-jack this thread but does anyone have the Ruger LC9? I have one on hold to purchase tomorrow. Currently have a Ruger 10/22 and want to add a handgun for home defense and concealed carry. I really like the LC9 but also like the LCR 22 revolver because it uses the same amo as our 10/22. LC9 and LCR 22 are two totally different guns and I am having a hard time deciding. Any opinions or experience with these would be appreciated!
Required watching for any self-proclaimed expert in the media .
I agree with you. I get tired of everyone correcting a guy who uses clip instead of magazine.
Even worse are the ones who don’t think it is improper to say .45 long colt. They will tell you it is .45 Colt. Also you can’t say .45 ACP, it must be .45 auto.
Yes, I try to use proper language but I am sure I mess up a lot. As long as I am communicating don’t make a big deal out of it.
I agree.
It was funny, all the Church Ladies nattering on as gun nomenclature nazis.
But a million lectures later the distinction just seems to be pedantic quibbling.
you don’t know the difference between a magazine and a clip and you have 70 plus guns? Well, I guess I believe it if you don’t know the difference between a wheel and a tire either.
I generally find that the folks that are the biggest terminology NAZIs don’t know half what they think they do.
They get just enough knowledge to consider themselves experts and then try to post themselves as gatekeepers to the kingdom.
People sortof understand that not everything on the Internet is true, but many don’t understand that “the authoritive texts” are also full of misnomers and even a few outright mistakes. They also don’t understand that an omission doesn’t equate to negation.
A banana clip?
Did you have a reading malfunction? I didn't say I don't know the difference, nor did I say that I misuse the terms. What I said was that I don't have a hissy fit when others do.
PS To `split the difference’ maybe we continue to lash the lefties on the mag-clip distinction, but cut ourselves some slack.
Like `lose’ & `loser,’ etc., usage here: lose is (almost) always spelled ‘loose’.
We know better, but the sight of it—especially lately—is offensive & hurtful, like `GOP’ without the `-e.’
The LC9 is by design a defense pistol that properly fed and aimed will stop an intruder. Not so much for anything smaller than 9mm. On the other hand, the lC9 has several bells and whistles, like a manual safety, a loaded chamber indicator and an action lock key (all less than useful in a double action only pistol.) If you are willing to commit to learning the pistol at the range, then it will serve you well at social distances.
I really like the LCR 22, but not if I want a pistol that will make someone stop trying to kill me right now. For home defense I would lean to at least .40 S&W or larger.
Good video “clip”.
“maybe hell do a tutorial on cartridges vs bullets soon”
Someone got his panties in a bunch a couple of days ago because I said “bullet” and meant “cartridge”. He went on and on. He really was a bore.
I have guns/rifles/handguns/weapons/thingys that shoot/expel bullets/dangerous fast moving thingys from cartridges/those shell thingys, at varmits/criters/animals/people. No matter what I call them, they kill stuff.
What part are you confused by? The fact that I have guns that take clips?
