LAS VEGAS — A 23-year-old contestant from Brooklyn won the title of Miss America in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Mallory Hagan, who hails from Park Slope, won the beauty pageant after tap dancing to James Brown's "Get Up Off of That Thing" and answering a question about whether armed guards belong in grade schools by saying we should not fight violence with violence.

Contrary to every post on this thread, I posit that Miss America is NOT a dumb blonde, but an extremely clever one.

Like I would have, she anticipated the topical and loaded question, and she proceeded to give the judges the answer they craved....an answer which also made the whole eastern seaboard plus the media orgasmic.

Thanks, Leni! Mallory is a lovely, athletic, young lady. She and our sons attended high school together. She and our oldest were in the Show Choir. Her mom owns the dance studio where our daughter took lessons. Wonderful, hard-working family!!

It is a very odd question to ask at a beauty show.

But not unexpected at all. Over the past several years it seems the winner (or the notable loser) is the one who answered the PC question correctly, or not.

But my observation is based only one the news after the pageant since I don't think I have ever watched a complete one in my life and have not seen any part of one in years.
